Julius 'Julie' R. Szymkowiak

Julius ‘Julie’ R. Szymkowiak:

85, of 4546 Brockhaus Lane, Junction City, died Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Ministry St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston. He was born on October 8, 1926, in Stevens Point. Son of the late Robert & Cecelia (Bukowski) Szymkowiak. He attended local schools.

He entered the United States Army on March 23, 1945, at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He was a Tech 5 in the Army. He received the Victory medal. He was honorably discharged on October 16, 1946, in Kansas.

Julius worked various jobs; he worked at Joerns Furniture and Coca Cola as a manager, retiring in 1984.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 6.

He loved polkas, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching, Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, playing the concertina and spending time with family and friends.

Julius had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. His faith was very important to him.

Survivors include his lifetime partner of 54 years: Mary Jane Blenker of Junction City. Two sisters-in-law: Johanna Szymkowiak and Phyllis Szymkowiak.

He is also survived by nieces and nephews and Jane’s extended family.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers.

Memorial Mass: 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012, at St. Peter Catholic Church. Rev. Arul Joseph V. officiating. Burial with full military honors will take place St. Michael’s Parish Cemetery, Junction City.

Visitation on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service in the St. Faustina Room at the church.

Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home, 703 Second Street, Stevens Point, is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Julius' name will be established at a later date.
