Alfons Wischbowski

October 18, 1931 — February 21, 2022

Wisconsin Rapids

Alfons Wischbowski, died on February 21, 2022, at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids. He was a resident at Edenbrook in Wisconsin Rapids.

He was born in Bottrop, Germany 🇩🇪 on October 18th of 1931. He attended School in Germany and graduated High School, there, and went on to college, which was a requirement under Adolf Hitlers' command.

He married Ermgart, and worked as an electrician in the coal mine, until they both Emigrated to the United States in March of 1965, and settled in a small German village in Chicago, Illinois. They were both employed at a Pinball factory in Chicago, Illinois for awhile. After his beloved wife, Ermgart died, he relocated to the Stevens Point area to enjoy retirement.

Alfons was always eager to share his love of Geography and History with others, as well as stories about his life. He also loved learning about other nationalities of the people he would meet, even in passing. He shared many stories about his childhood. He talked often about "Schatzi" a dog he and his wife shared, and were very fond of. "Schatzi" means sweetheart in German. Alfons was fluent in: English, French, and German. He enjoyed many telephone conversations with his cousin Hans, and friend, Franz, both residing in Germany, as well as his neice, Genevieve, residing in France, as well as writing back and forth to them, and other friends.

Alfons was an impressionable, kind, outspoken gentleman who left a lasting impression on all who he came in contact with, even for short amounts of time. He will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, long term, and short term. He was a gentle soul.

A special Thank You to the wonderful staff at Edenbrook who helped make his last months of life content, happy, and memorable for him. Especially the nursing staff whom he thought of as friends. Your compassion and kindness will always be remembered.

Another Thank you goes out to the team at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids for their care of Alfons in his last moments of life.
