IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Amy Meadows
Gwidt
December 4, 1961 – May 28, 2025
Amy Meadows Gwidt, age 63, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday morning after years of dealing with health issues.
Born in Hammond, IN, to the late Dr. Robert Westphal Meadows and Georgeanne See Meadows, Amy was a beautiful, audacious and artistically gifted child who befriended whomever she wanted. She took charge. Her father—who briefly taught at the same elementary school she attended—was often called to the principal's office to deal with whatever antics Amy cooked up. She was lovable and charismatic, and even after she renamed her 2nd grade teacher "Ms. 'Harry Banana' Frank" as a disruptive class joke, Amy still became Ms. Frank's favorite student by the end of the year.
After high school, Amy toured with the nonprofit musical group Up With People and performed during the 1982 Super Bowl halftime show. Never a fan of sports, Amy often laughed about how she initially thought the Bengals played the "69ers" that year (instead of the 49ers) and how her dad and stepmom Nancy—who went to see her perform—had to gently correct her because she kept repeating it. She was bad at sports, but she was great at telling stories.
Amy attended the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point for music and later for design. Both were a good fit for her because she paid attention to every detail. She owned her own design business (Cabinet, Ingenuity & Design LLC) and aside from remodeling kitchens, she won the contract for the complete overhaul of Gepetto's Workshop Toy Store in downtown Stevens Point. Her daughters Marisa and Jocelyn inspired that design, which still sings from each backlit shelving unit and multi-level display case on the main, staircased side of the store.
Because of her health complications, Amy was missed before she was gone. Those she touched can't deny her faith, her lively demeanor, and her concern for those she loved. In an old handwritten letter she sent one of her daughters on lined, lavender-colored paper, she wrote, "No matter where you go or what you do, I will be with you in spirit cheering you on!" And that's really who she was at her core and who she always tried to be.
