Andrea Splittberger-Rosen, born on November 2, 1953, in Hartford, Connecticut, passed away on September 23, 2024, due to Huntington's Disease. Andrea spent her childhood in Florida, California, and Arizona, and graduated from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. She earned a Bachelor of Music with high honors in Applied Clarinet from Michigan State University, a Master of Music in Performance and Literature in Clarinet from Eastman School of Music, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Music, Theory and Literature in Clarinet from Michigan State University.
Andrea and her husband, Robert Rosen, performed as the Uwharrie Clarinet-Percussion Duo, receiving grants from The National Endowment for the Arts and touring the United States. In 1979, they performed at Carnegie Recital Hall. Andrea played in numerous orchestras, including the Pine Mountain Music Festival Orchestra, Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, Lansing Symphony, Greensboro Symphony, and the American Wind Symphony Orchestra.
As a devoted teacher and mentor, Andrea taught Clarinet and Music Theory at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point for 33 years, advocating fiercely for her students. In 2004, she studied new music with Eric Mandat and classic period clarinet with Donald Oehler during her sabbatical.
Andrea was also an avid golfer, gardener, and cook. She played golf on courses throughout the U.S. and attended several U.S. Open events. She and Robert shared their home with many beloved cats over the years.
Andrea is survived by her husband Robert Rosen of Plover, Wisconsin, and two brothers, Gary (Mary) Splittberger of Billings, Montana, and Dale (LaDonna) Splittberger of Phoenix, Arizona, as well as her "adopted family" the Hoyts.
There will be an open house celebrating Andrea's life on Sunday, November 3, from 1-4pm at the Rosen's residence, 199 River Drive, Plover, WI.
