Mattmiller, Aurel Russell "Matt" born on September 26th, 1938 at age 85 of Stevens Point passed away on Wednesday April 17th, 2024 surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Mattoon High School Class of 1957. He was the Service Manager of the Mobil Gas Station in Antigo for many years and moved to Stevens Point in 1976 to become the Irrigation Manager for Lockwood Irrigation. He owned his own business for a few years called "Matt's Irrigation. After his business venture he started working for Heartland Farms and retired from there in 2006.
He loved any sport but had a passion for baseball. He played County League Baseball into his 40's for the Polar Bears and then helped start the Antigo Credit Union Team. He was proud of the fact he was in the Mattoon Area Museum for his baseball accomplishments with his proudest memory being the game he had 3 home runs including 2 grand slams and 11 RBI's for the Polar Bears. He also enjoyed coaching his sons in Little League.
He was an avid Dale Earnhardt Sr racing fan and had an impressive memorabilia collection. He was also a devoted Packers and Brewers fan.
He had a deep affection for his animals in particular two favored dogs - Paddy and Lady and two favored deer- Snake and Hussy. He had a love for gardening and canning.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Theresa (Vaughan) Mattmiller, sister Ruth Koontz, brothers Harold, Willard, Walter, Richard, and Edgar. He is survived by his brothers Merlin (Linda) South Carolina, Vernon - Arkansas, and sister Marilyn McKenna - North Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
He was married to MariAnn (Fermanich) for 25 years in July 1959 and raised four children.
Daughter - Marcia Haydock (Joe), grandchildren: Jenna Elliott (Lucas), great grandchildren (Oakleigh, Emmons, and Easton)
Joey (Carlena) and Jaycie Goddard (Austin)
Daughter - Michelle Mercado, grandchildren: Noel Ehmann (Dan) great grandchild (Luka), Rob Mercado (Hedda) great grandchild (Stella) and Gabrielle Mercado.
Son- Mark (Nina), grandchildren: Brittany Krueger (Tara), great grandchildren (William, Brianna, and Brooke), Jaret and Sydney.
Son - Steve (Lori), grandchildren: Hailee Richter (Josh), great grandchildren (Rylie and Grayson), Kelsi Clark (Nick) and great grandchild (Kora) and Brennan.
There will be a celebration of life at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Birnamwood WI on Sunday May 5th at 10:00 am with a lunch to follow.
