Barbara A. Grzywacz

May 2, 1942 — June 25, 2025

Ames

Barbara A. (Ann) Grzywacz of Huxley, IA, passed June 25th at Israel Family Hospice House (Ames, IA).  Age 83, Barbara was born May 2, 1942, in Custer, WI. She was the daughter of the late Norman ("Dick") C. and Bernice L. (Klosinski) Kjer.

She attended elementary school in Ellis, WI, and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point, WI in 1959.

Barb married James (Jim) J. Grzywacz on July 16, 1960, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in the Town of Ellis, WI. The newlyweds moved to Milwaukee, WI and lived there for five years before moving back to Central WI to raise their three boys.  After Jim retired, the couple moved to Eagle River, WI, a place with many cherished memories and friendships.  Jim preceded her in death on March 18, 2018.  Barb left Eagle River after Jim died and moved to Huxley, IA to remain close to some grandchildren.

Barb worked in various capacities, beginning with Sentry Insurance, followed by Rice Clinic, Dr. Robert Cooper DDS, and Drs. Boehm and Picconato OB/GYN – all of Stevens Point. She worked for over 15 years as a Certified Medical Assistant with Dr. Kate's Hospice program of Woodruff, WI until her retirement in 2008.

In her free time, Barb enjoyed baking and cooking (and eating!).  She volunteered prolifically, thoroughly enjoying serving others in any way possible during times of need – including strangers encountered at airport gates. She was a community volunteer throughout her retirement years in Eagle River, and she continued her service ministry while in Huxley. During spring and fall, she was regularly seen on her three-wheeled bicycle, making her way through Huxley. Barb was a caring friend and neighbor, loved by all her "besties" in her seniors' exercise class.

Survivors include her sons; John (Kim) Grzywacz of Ames, IA, James G. (Christy) Grzywacz of Bowling Green, KY, and Joseph (Kim) Grzywacz of San José, CA, and 11 Grandchildren Lia, Emily, James, Josiah, Jeremy, Danielle, Noah, Jeremiah, Ethan, Monika, and Jonah. Further survived by her siblings Pat Somers of Plover, WI, and Jane (Robert) Rosicky of Wisconsin Rapids, WI. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Jim; brothers, Bill Kjer and Jerry Kjer; and a sister, Bonnie Sommers.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Barb's name will be established at a later date.
