It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bryan Leo Gilmeister, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on April 6, 2025.
Bryan was born on January 21, 1958, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, where he spent most of his life, surrounded by the landscapes that he cherished deeply.
Bryan was the son of Leonard and Henrietta (Mlodik) Gilmeister. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. He was raised in a home instilled with strong values that would guide him throughout his life. After graduating from Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH) in 1976, Bryan embarked on a fulfilling career as a winder operator at various paper mills, including Consolidated Papermill, Clearwater Paper, and most recently, Mativ. He was a respected member of the Steelworks Union Local 2370 in Stevens Point, where he was also an active participant in the Fire Brigade at Mativ.
Family meant everything to Bryan. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy Gilmeister, with whom he shared 11 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a loving home filled with laughter and cherished memories. Bryan was the proud father to three children: Zakk (Amanda) Gilmeister of Junction City, Ashley (Ben) Bailey of Stevens Point, and Jessica Gilmeister of Plover. His role as a stepfather was equally cherished, as he welcomed Jason (Heather) Cousineau of Plover and Rob (Lici) Cousineau of Stevens Point into his heart. The joy of being a grandfather was evident in his relationships with Bryson, Jerome, Xavier, Lennon, Lucy, and Raya, as well as his step-grandchildren, Malina, Andre, and Ethan.
Bryan was known for his passionate spirit and dedication to his interests. He took immense pride in his yard work, reveling in the beauty of his surroundings and the satisfaction of a job well done. Bryan was an avid Packer fan. A true beer connoisseur, Bryan enjoyed trying and rating various brews, often sharing his findings with family and friends, adding yet another layer of warmth and camaraderie to his relationships.
Bryan's warm heart and generous spirit extended far beyond his immediate family. He is survived by his siblings: Dale (Sherry) Gilmeister of Stevens Point, Doreen (Keith) Repinski of Amherst, Scott (Dawn) Gilmeister of Stevens Point, and Lee (Stacy) Gilmeister of Eland; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family. They shared countless memories, each one a testament to the bond of family that will remain unbroken.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Aspirus Cancer Center, the nurses, and the doctors of Aspirus Palliative and Hospice Care for their compassionate support during Bryan's battle with bladder cancer. Your kindness made a difference in his final days.
A memorial fund will be established later to honor Bryan's legacy.
Bryan Leo Gilmeister touched the lives of many, and though he has departed from this world, his spirit and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace, and may his family find comfort in the memories they shared.
