Carol Mae Shields

Carol (Zinda) Shields, peacefully passed away on October 18, 2023 with her family by her side.

She was born to the late Clarence and Margaret (Maslowski) Zinda on March 2, 1957, in Stevens Point. She grew up in Rosholt, WI before moving to Appleton, WI where she resided for the remainder of her life.

Carol married Bradley Shields in June of 1978.  Together, they raised four children, Chris (Chrissy) Shields of Freedom, Carly (David) Bootz of Menasha, Eric (Taylor) Shields of Charlotte, NC and Matthew Shields of Appleton.  The couple later divorced. Carol is further survived by her beloved grandchildren, Collin, Jacob, Mackenzie, Andrew, Bella, Evie, Micah and Koda; her brothers and sister, Kevin (Terry) Zinda of Park Falls, WI, John (Bev) Zinda of Rosholt, WI and Cheryl (Tim) Hetzer of Butternut, WI; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; nephew, Alan Zinda; sister-in-law Lori Zinda and her dear best friend, Corry Gossen.

Carol has worked the past 30 years in Food Service with her final (and favorite) position being the Kitchen Lead at McKinley Elementary in Appleton, which was by far her most rewarding position for her, she so dearly enjoyed working with the children, they brought a smile to her face every day!

She was happiest while in the kitchen cooking for her family and friends. She has left us so many recipes she would make that we will cherish – chicken dumpling soup, hot beef, pork steak and dilly beans are just a few favorites. She loved to crochet, canning, reading, flea markets and thrifting and was always up for a road trip, but the greatest joy came from being with her grandchildren, family and so many adored friends.

Carol's children and grandchildren wish to thank Dr. Freeman, Nurse Sarah and the rest of the Nursing staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital for the love, care and compassion you and your teams showed our family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception (St. Mary) Parish - Custer, 7176 Esker Road, Custer, WI 54423 at 11:00AM on Friday, October 27, 2023 with Rev. Mark Miller presiding.

A Private Family Burial will be at a later date in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery, Polonia.

Family and friends are invited to a Visitation at the Church on Friday from 9:00AM until the time of the Mass.

A Parish Rosary will be prayed Friday morning at 9:15AM.

A "Celebration of Life" for Carol, will be held in the Appleton area on Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 1:00PM – 4:00PM at Lake Park Pub, N8904 Lake Park Rd, Menasha, WI 54952.
