Chester "Chet" C. Zelinski
Of Stevens Point, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 31, 2024 at Stevens Point Health Services in Whiting.
Age 88 Chet was born October 25, 1935 in Stevens Point. He was the son of the late Peter and Annastasia "Stella" (Pollack) Zelinski. He attended local grade schools, graduating from P. J. Jacobs High School in 1953.
Chet entered the United States Army on February 3, 1954 in Milwaukee, WI. He served as a SP-3 with the Co. C 70 Engineer Battalion as a Construction Equipment Operator. He was transferred to the USAR on June 19, 1957 at Ft. Sheridan, IL. He completed his obligation on September 6, 1961. Chet received the National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation of Germany Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Chet married Esther Gawlik on September 7, 1957 at St. Peters Catholic church. After their marriage the couple settled in Stevens Point. His wife Esther survives.
Chet worked as a truck driver for many years, and also owned and operated Zelinski Heating and Air Conditioning retiring in 2000. Even after retirement, Chet would continue to help fixing Heating and Air Conditioners for friends and neighbors.
In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and loved the outdoors.
Chet was also a member of the Stevens Point American Legion Berens-Scribner Post 6.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Peter church for Masses to be said in Chet's name would be appreciated.
Survivors include his wife Esther, his children; Susan (Eric) Ristow, Lynn (Dan) Sawyer and Jeff (Sonia) Zelinski, his nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Further survived by two brothers Clarence (Theresa) Zelinski and Dan Zelinski and two sisters Ann Stanchik and Kathy Delano and a daughter in law Jane Zelinski.
Chet was preceded in death by his son Kenneth (2018), granddaughter Samara, four brothers Raymond, Alex, Henry and Tony and two sisters Eleanor Ostrowski and Esther Engebretson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at St. Peters Catholic Church. Rev. John Potaczek officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 am Thursday morning in the St. Faustina Room of St. Peters Church until the time for mass.
