Chester "Chet" Dombrowski, 76, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2023. Chet was born on January 30, 1947 to Leo and Philomen (Patoka) Dombrowski. He graduated from Pacelli High School in 1965, the year his Dodgers won the World Series.
Also, in 1965 Chet met Mary Kawleski, the love of his life, at the Ponczka Dance at Starlight Ballroom. They were married November 8, 1969. Chet and Mary went on to have two daughters: Jen and Becky.
At the age of 55, Chet retired from Sentry Insurance after 35 years of service and was immediately drafted by his daughter to provide daycare duties for his first grandson. He achieved MVP status and was awarded with a new contract 3 years later for grandson #2 while cheering on his Minnesota "farm" team consisting of a granddaughter and another grandson.
Music was a very big part of Chet's life. Right out of high school, he formed the Cavaliers polka band. Later, Chet and some of his IT friends at Sentry formed a classic rock band called The Byte Band . Chet then went on to drum for Bobby Danczyk and the Polish Memories for many years. He finished off his music career by picking up the drumsticks for Norm Dombrowski's Happy Notes when his older brother Norm passed away. When he was not making music, Chet enjoyed listening to polkas and classic rock (often much too loudly, according to Mary).
Anyone that knew Chet knew that he was a big Dodgers fan and he successfully converted most of his family to cheer for the Dodgers. He also enjoyed golfing with his closest friends, going on polka cruises with Mary, and attending his grandchildren's activities.
He is survived by his wife Mary; daughters Jen (Jeff) Tewes of Jackson, MN and Becky (Don) Kulinski of Stevens Point; his grandchildren Ethan, Meta, Isaac, and Kade; his brothers Bob Dombrowski, and Bill (Sue) Dombrowski; sisters Nancy Walkush, Mary Ann (David) Drefcinski, Jo Ann Scheidt, Carol (Fritz) Menzel, sister-in-law Marlene Dombrowski; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Chet was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Norm and brothers-in-law Mark Smolen, Dick Walkush, and Ken Scheidt.
Chet will be remembered for his easy-going attitude, quick smile, constant encouragement, love for his family, and his contentment in life. His family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses and caregivers at Dimensions Memory Care and St. Croix Hospice.
Chet will be missed and wants you to know that dancing is encouraged.
