Chester L. Karch, age 95, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025. He was born on April 30, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Chester was a proud veteran of the Korean War.
He married Eleanor Blavat on May 18, 1957, at St. Peter's Catholic Church. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before she passed away in 2018. Chester and Eleanor resided in Milwaukee, WI, for several years before building a home and settling in Stevens Point.
Chester retired from Consolidated Paper Mill at the age of 62 and often joked about collecting a pension for almost as many years as he worked at the mill. He loved his family, especially his granddaughter, Brooklyn. Chester also enjoyed the casino, gambling in general, puzzles, a good Bloody Mary, and bacon!
With the help of his family and sister-in-law, he was able to remain living on his own until a few weeks before his death. His family would like to thank his sister-in-law, Mary Blavat, for all that she did to help him in the past several years, allowing him to stay in his apartment. The family would also like to thank the wonderful people at Portage County Healthcare Rehab facility for the wonderful care Chester received.
Chester was preceded in death by his beloved wife Eleanor, two sons, Keith and Kevin Karch, and five brothers, Donald, Leroy, Jerome, Larry, and Mike. He is survived by his daughter Michele (Jim) Verbick of McHenry, IL, son John (Stacey) Karch of Rosholt, WI, granddaughter Brooklyn, three step-grandchildren, and seven great step-grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters-in-law: Doris Karch, Mary Blavat, Sister Carlene Blavat, Angie Blavat, and one brother-in-law, Dave Fricker.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Chester will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 800 4th Ave, Stevens Point. Father John Potaczek will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service in the St. Faustina room at the church. Full military honors will follow the funeral mass. Burial will take place at a later date in the Guardian Angel Cemetery.
