Clarence Sylvester Ramczyk, 97, Ellis, WI passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 8, 2024, surrounded by family.
Clarence was born July 18, 1926, on the family farm in the Town of Sharon. He was the son of the late John and Rose (Zurawski) Ramczyk. His marriage to Ann Platta took place on November 15, 1947, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia, WI. The couple settled on their farm in Ellis, where they celebrated 60 years of marriage. Ann preceded him in death on January 25, 2008.
Clarence worked hard to support his large family, working for a homebuilding contractor by day and farming evenings and weekends. After retiring from building homes, he remodeled homes and built custom cabinetry for many clients.
In addition to custom cabinetry, he delved into making clocks, custom furniture, and other items he could reproduce by simply being shown a photo. His children and grandchildren each received a custom-built clock, leaving a lasting legacy of his craftsmanship. He could fix anything, made not only of wood but his farm and household equipment as well.
Clarence had many hobbies. He couldn't wait for the snow to melt in spring so he could start planting the large garden he carefully tended each summer. Clarence made sure anyone who stopped by in summertime left with something out of his garden.
In the fall, deer hunting was his focus, and at the age of 87, he bagged a 15-point buck with a bow and arrow numerous hunters had their eye on. He also took many hunting trips to Canada and the western U.S.
He didn't like winter but met it head-on by chopping plenty of firewood in preparation. Then, it was all about ice fishing. He loved it so much that at the age of 90, he obtained a U. S. patent for an ice fishing seat, Patent # D793518.
Other hobbies included making wine from berries he grew and picked in the wild, foraging for mushrooms, making venison sausage, smoking fish, and sitting down to relax after a long day with some ice cream and watching a Brewer's game or the Weather Channel in his favorite chair.
We will miss his warm, giving heart, his storytelling, and his quick wit we called "Dadisms," like "If I wanted to do it and I couldn't, that would be worse." Or, "The falling is easy; it's the getting up that's hard."
Survivors include his seven children:
Arleen (Robert) Gross, Custer
Diane (Richard) Ebbers, Louisville Colorado
Janie (Larry) Worzella, Stevens Point
Alayna (David) Hendrickson, Fox Point, WI
Patti (David) Mrozek, Custer
Carol (David) Borchardt, Rossville, TN
Ken (Alix) Ramczyk, Kyle, TX
17 grandchildren, 36 greatgrandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild.
He is survived by his sister, Etta Ramczyk and preceded in death by eight sisters: Priscilla, Phyllis, Rita, Bernice, Lucille, Angie, Theresa, Evelyn and four brothers, Albert, Barney, Victor and Daniel.
