David G Hendrix Golla 83, of Stevens Point, died peacefully on Saturday July 27, 2024. Born on March 3, 1941, in Oakland California, David moved to Wisconsin with his mother and stepfather soon afterward. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, music and camping. Joan preceded him in death on October 24, 2012, soon after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. He was an avid amateur (HAM) radio enthusiast, and in his later years enjoyed traveling to various destinations around the country with his good friend Barbara Towey.
David is survived by his daughters Julie (David) Benson of Arkansas, and Carla (Tom) Betka of Stevens Point; four grandchildren Christopher (Kerri Jo) Sweeney, Joshua Sweeney, Megan (Kyle) Vogt and Jackson (Micaela) Benson; and three great-grandchildren Shawn Sweeney, Joshua Sweeney and Natalee Sweeney. He is also survived by his siblings Alvin (Liz) Golla, Evelyn (Ray) Danczyk, Francis (Eddie) Hawro, Esther (Everett) Woyak, Stanley (Mary) Golla, and Linda (Jerry) Van Hammond. He was preceded in death by his wife, mother and stepfather.
The family would like to offer their thanks to numerous teams for providing care for David in his final months. To the staff of Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Plover, we offer a heartfelt thank you. He loved staying there this past year, and enjoyed interacting with your staff and participating in the social activities you offer.
To the staff of the Wausau Manor where David was staying since his most recent hospitalization, thank you for providing his care during the final days of his life. We also wish to thank the physicians and staff of the DaVita Stevens Point Dialysis facility, where he had been receiving care these past few years. He often spoke very fondly of your staff.
Finally, to the staff of the Marshfield & Aspirus hospital and clinic systems, we offer our sincere thanks to each and every one of you for providing his care during these past few years. His medical journey was not an easy one these past few years, but the care and compassion that you offered him made it more bearable for all of us.
