Donald J. (Joseph) Wiernik

Of Whiting, Stevens Point, died Thursday evening, June 12, 2025, at River View Lodge Assisted Living in the Village of Whiting.

Age 92, Donald was born June 13, 1932, in the Town of Carson. He was the son of the late Joseph and Sophie (Adamski) Wiernik.

He entered the U.S. Army on March 24, 1953, where he served two years in Germany in the 33rd Field Artillery Battalion as a Field Wireman Corporal. He received the National Defense Service and Occupation medals and was honorably discharged on March 15, 1955, at Fort Sheridan in Illinois.

On July 6, 1957, he married Leona Wanta at St. Peter Catholic Church inStevens Point. After their marriage, the couple settled in the Village of Whiting. His wife preceded him in death.

He worked at Preway for 10 years, followed by two years at Bake – Rite, and finally Georgia Pacific Paper Mill in Port Edwards, where he retired after 28 years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 543, VFW Post 10262, and St. Bronislava Church and Holy Name Society for men in Plover. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1170 in Stevens Point.

In his free time, Donald enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening, cooking, baking, traveling, casinos, and listening to and watching the Milwaukee Brewers.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Donald's name will be established at a later date.

Survivors include his daughter Susan (Brian) Diehn of Junction City; two sons -- Kenneth (Amy) Wiernik of Plover and Todd (Anthony Leva) Wiernik of Denver, CO; daughter-in-law Ann Wiernik of Tampa, FL; and constant companion, Tiger.

Additional survivors include five grandchildren -- Matt (Carrie), Jessica(Bernie), Brandon (Hannah), Megan (Branko), and Brenton (Karl), as well as four great-grandchildren -- Benjamin, Hayden, Gabriel, and Nolan.

He is further survived by his sister Lorraine Kerchefski; brother James (Geraldine) Wiernik; and sister-in-law Caroline Wiernik.

He was preceded in death by his son Clifford, sister Rose Marie (Clarence) Eron, brothers David (Lorraine) Wiernik, Richard Wiernik, Chester Wiernik, and brother-in-law Barney Kerchefski.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church, located at 3200 Plover Road, Plover. Rev. Arturo Vigueras will officiate the service. Donald will be laid to rest with full military honors in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Pisarski Community Funeral Home, 2911 Plover Road, Plover, and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Plover VFW –Post 10262 will conduct a ritual on Thursday at 6:45 p.m., followed by a parish rosary concluding the visitation at 7:00 p.m.
