Dorothy Tiede

Dorothy Tiede, 94, adored friend of anyone who crossed her path, from Stevens Point,
passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025 after a life richly lived in service and love. Remembered mostly for unconditional love to her husband, Clair, all of her family and her church and faith in God. She is known for teaching at the first special needs school in Wisconsin and was visited by Betty Ford. She paved the way for women's rights by obtaining her Doctorate in Education and teaching at UW-Whitewater providing training for teachers in the field of special needs. Later, she became the Assistant to Chancellor Connor, UW-Whitewater, helping countless students to graduate on time. Upon retirement, she became a Diaconal Minister, then Pastor and revived Troy Center Church in East Troy which is still alive today. She developed a traveling ministry with her husband.

She wrote a biography documenting her life from surviving the Great Depression to building a life of service.
Her motto was always "choose happiness".

Dorothy is survived by her daughters Peggy McDowell and Susan Hintz; grandchildren, Ben and
Robin McDowell, Luke and Tyler Adsit(Hintz), eight grandchildren and sister Lenora Mahan.
She is preceded in death by her husband, granddaughter Lindsey Rudie, and her brothers Tom
and Jack.

Peggy and Sue would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation for the loving staff at
Riverview Lodge and Interim Hospice.

A Memorial Service for Dorothy will be held Friday, February 21st at 11:00 a.m. at The Beloved Community Church in Stevens Point-900 Brilowski Road. Rev. Jane Johnson will be officiating. Visitation will take place Friday morning at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
