Elizabeth Ann (Holt) Dorley, age 99, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully, early Monday morning, September 30, 2024 at North Crest Assisted Living in Stevens Point. She was born on September 8, 1925 in the Coal Mining Town of Sturgis, Kentucky. A daughter of the late George and Lillie (O'Bryant) Holt. Betty attended and graduated from Sturgis High School and because WWII was raging, she traveled to Washington D.C. and worked at the Pentagon for the duration of the war. Traveling back to Sturgis, Elizabeth met a young Air Corpsman on leave and love blossomed. The former Elizabeth Holt was joined in holy matrimony to Herbert Allen Dorley on November 26, 1945 at the Sturgis Christian Church. The young couple moved to Chicago while Herb (Betty always called him "Bill") attended school on the GI Bill. Herb's work with the National Mine Company had the couple move to Nashville, IL for the next 40 years. After Herb retired, they moved to Chandler, AZ until his passing in 2004. Betty moved to be near her daughter in Plover, WI and remained in the Stevens Point area until her death. Elizabeth was a faithful member of each of the churches in the communities that she lived. She had taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for more than 40 years. In earlier years, Betty enjoyed reading, camping and traveling. Her greatest joy was being with her family and especially her grandchildren.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Kiifner of Plover; two granddaughters, Amy Frechette of Gilbert, AZ and Amanda Encarnacion of ShoLo, AZ; two grandsons, Chad Kiifner of Plover, WI and Kyle Kiifner of Georgetown, TX; 13 Great-Grandchildren; 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren; her sister, Nancy (Ron) Luckett of Baton Rouge, LA; a sister-in-law, Virginia Holt; along with other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert in 2004; son, Gary in 2015; grandson, Aaron Dorley; son-in-law, Allan Kiifner in 2020; and her siblings, Dorothy (Shelly) Omer, George Holt, Jr., Mary Ruth (Byron) Brady, Judy Jones and Otho (Barbara) Holt.
Private family services will be at a later date with burial in Sturgis, KY.
