Stevens Point

Evelyn H. Jurgella   98, of Stevens Point passed away December 16, 2024, at Willow Brook Assisted Living Center.

Evelyn was born May 29, 1926, in Galloway, WI. She was the daughter of the late Emanuel and Helen (Kudronowicz) Pochinski. She attended 8th grade Birch Grove school. Her marriage to Adam F. Jurgella took place on November 9, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galloway. After their marriage the couple settled in the Town of Stockton area.

Her husband Adam preceded her in death on May 3, 1995. Evelyn and Adam owned and operated Wildwood Gardens Tavern and Dance Hall for over 46 years. Weekends were very busy with the cooks coming in on Thursday, Wedding on Saturday's and a wedding shower or church dances on Sunday.

She enjoyed all the friends she met thru the years including the travelers going north who made their annual stop on the way. There were always new records on the jukebox, and she was quite a whistler. She could whistle any polka or song that would play, and the foot stomp along to the music. Evelyn and Adam would invite many friends and neighbors for venison feeds and homemade turtle soup in their earlier days. She loved going up north with family and friends at the cottage in Presque Isle on State Line Lake, where again met many new friends. They always were sure to take a bunch of fresh vegetables to treat their friends and relatives up north. Oh yes and she was a deer hunter with Adam and their grandchildren. Evelyn enjoyed Packer games, an occasional casino trip and enjoyed bingo.

When Evelyn was able, she always attended Sunday mass and said the rosary daily. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 6, a member of the Moose Lodge of Stevens Point and a 50-year member of the PCCW of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Survivors include her two daughters; Joan (Frank) "Skip" Raschka and Carol (Ernie) Kezeske Jr. both of Stevens Point, her five grandchildren Jennifer (Dan) Palmer, Christine (Ed) Maier, Matt (Julie) Raschka, Kurt Kezeske and Scott (Donna) Kezeske, her great grandchildren Nicole (Greg) Ripczinski, Adam (Kimber) Raschka, Jordan Jakusz, Morgan Jakusz, Addison Maier, Colton Raschka, Madelynne Raschka, Luke Kezeske, Lia Kezeske and two great great grandchildren; Hunter Raschka and Jaymeson Ripczinski. Three step grandchildren; Jayden, Evan and Ashlyn Ripczinski.

Further survived by two sisters; Caroline Flegner of Milwaukee and Mary Duerr of Bevent, and Sister-in-law, Rose Kulinski.

She was preceded in death by her four brothers Hubert, Herman (Emily), Walter (Evelyn)  and Robert Pochinski and two sisters Helen ( Clarence) Brzezinski and Loretta (Barney) Barnett.
