Evelyn Slowinski

October 14, 1925 — January 12, 2022

Evelyn (Gagas) Slowinski, age 96, was taken by the choirs of angels into paradise on January 12, 2022. At that time, she lived at the Lodge at Whispering Pines, and had been for almost four years.

Evelyn is survived by daughters Cindy (Deacon Ray Heitzinger), Stevens Point, and Chris Slowinski (Richard Schwartz), Hartland, Wisconsin. and son-in-law Jim Kaszubski. She also loved and deeply cherished grandchildren Carolyn (Patrick) Peterson, Rebecca (Richard) La Rue, Sara (Nick) Poss, William (Natalie) Schwartz, Steven Schwartz, Nathan (Sarah) Kaszubski, and Andy (Leah) Kaszubski). Much to her delight, she was able to treasure great-grandchildren Carsten and Oliver Poss, Miles and Alexander Peterson, Brock Kaszubski and Evelyn and Devon Kaszubski.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Kaszubski in 2004, and her husband, Steven, with whom she had been married for 57 years, who also died in 2004. Those two deaths affected her deeply and brought sadness to her for the rest of her life. Evelyn was a survivor however, having lived longer than her brothers and their spouses, sister and her spouse of the Anton and Josephine (Bruski) Gagas family), and all of the 15 brothers and sisters and their spouses of the Anton and Stella (Levandowski) Slowinski family. Her passing marked the end of a generation of hard-working individuals, having grown up from very humble beginnings, and creating meaningful and productive lives.

Evelyn attended St. Stanislaus Catholic School and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1941. She was introduced to her future husband, Steve, at a dance. He was so dashing in his Army uniform. They married in 1947 and built a home on Portage Street for their three daughters. Evelyn was a loving mother who kept an immaculate home; she was a great cook and Sunday dinner was her specialty. Evelyn was also an impressive seamstress, making many clothes, especially for "her twins" because she could never find two outfits of the same size. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family as it was there that she felt most comfortable and loved. She lived a simple life, loving the Lord, and doing whatever she could for her family, especially by praying for them. She took such good care of all of us and loved us dearly and deeply. Evelyn was also a feisty little lady.

Our gratitude goes out to the exceptional staff at Whispering Pines, who took such amazing care of our mom. Your self-giving attention and patience were above and beyond, and we will never forget you. You made her laugh and helped her find joy in the every day. We will miss seeing you as we consider you friends and family. Thank you also to Heartland Hospice Care who helped walk us through these last challenging weeks.

There will be a visitation at the Pisarski Community Funeral Home at 2911 Plover Road in Plover, on Sunday, January 16, 2022 from 4 to 6:30 pm with a Rosary to conclude the evening.
