Helen G. (Dolly) Pawelski, 87, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Dimensions Living after a lengthy illness.
Dolly was born December 7, 1936, in Stevens Point to the late Benedict and Helen (Miller) Zabroski. She attended St. Stephen Grade School, then graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1955. While there she distinguished herself as a talented artist.
She married Felix J. Pawelski at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stevens Point on August 3, 1957. They settled in the town of Dewey, then built a home and moved to Stevens Point in 1968. They raised 5 children and celebrated 54 years of marriage before his passing in 2012.
Dolly worked at Campbell's while still in high school, then moved on to Sentry Insurance until starting her family. Many will remember her subsequent reentry into the workforce as a kindergarten teacher's aide in the Stevens Point Catholic Schools for 25 years before retiring in 2002.
Dolly was an avid painter with a special passion for watercolor. She also enjoyed ceramics, gardening, cooking and baking with her grandchildren, and sewing for her family and the community theater. Dolly led the St. Stephen Art and Environment team for over 20 years, and particularly enjoyed decorating the church for Christmas. She also particularly loved traveling, often taking trips across the country with her daughter, Justine, and cousin Mary Jane Burczyk. Most of all, she will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to the musical, artistic, and academic pursuits of her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include daughters Justine Pawelski, Maxine (Patrick) Hogan, and Christine (Kenneth) Kluck, all of Stevens Point; sons David (Karen) of Stevens Point and Gregory (Sandra) of Rudolph; 12 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Catherine Pawelski of Stevens Point, Agnes (Shudarek) Pawelski still on the Pawelski family farm in the Town of Dewey, and Nancy Zabroski of Oconto, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law Lawrence and Antoinette (Kwasnik) Pawelski, brother Ronald Zabroski, sister-in-law Sister Regine Pawelski, brother-in-law Theodore Pawelski, and grand-daughter Ashley Ann Kluck.
