Irene M. Shopinski
Irene M. (Dombrowski) Shopinski passed away with her loving family at her side on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at North Crest Assisted Living at the age of 89.
Irene was born on March 5, 1935 in the Town of New Hope, and was the daughter of the late John and Alvina (Shulfer) Dombrowski. She graduated from Amherst High School in 1952.
Once her children were all grown, she received her Teaching Degree from UW- Stevens Point in 1975. She taught in the Stevens Point School District for a number of years, finishing her working career at Sentry Insurance.
She married Leo Shopinski on April 14, 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia. After their marriage the couple settled in the Village of Whiting. Her husband Leo preceded her in death on February 11, 2018.
Irene enjoyed traveling, reading, listening to country music, watching the birds and flowers (lilacs were her favorite) and loved spending time with her family.
Irene is survived by her children; Sue (the late Jeff Fritsch), Jeff (Nancy) Shopinski, Sandra (Dale) Swanson and Sharon (Casey) Sullivan.
Her grandchildren; Jeremy (Jenna) Fritsch, Jaycie (Brandon) Stremkowski, Allison (Nick) Swain, Molly, Jill, Lauren, Maggie and Dale Jr. Swanson and Bobby Sullivan.
Her great grandchildren; Emma and Teddy Fritsch, Elodie, Leo, Luke, Remi and Isla Stremkowski, Tatumn and Jersey Swain, further survived by her sister Lucille (late Clarence) Dallman and sisters-in-law Bea Dombrowski, Joyce Gagas and Wanda Shopinski.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leo, son in law Jeff Fritsch, great grandchild Roman Stremkowski, her sisters Gen (Frank) Jelinski, Dorothy (Hank) Brezinski, Sally (Ed) Sopa, Fran (Don) Adamczak, brothers; Ernie (Dorothy) Dombrowski, Dennis and Charles Dombrowski.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Irene's name to St. Bronislava Church, or a charity of your choosing would be appreciated.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Bronislava Catholic Church. Rev. Arturo Vigueras officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Bronislava Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM Tuesday at St. Bronislava Church until the time for Mass.
