James "Jim" Wanta
James "Jim" Wanta, of Custer, joined the Lord on the morning of March 19, 2022 at age 91. Jim was born September 28, 1930 in Stevens Point. He was the middle son of Adolf and Teckla (Helminski) Wanta. He attended the grade school in Ellis and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1949. He was a graduate of the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
He was a professional civil engineer for the Army Corps for twenty-eight years and did one tour of duty to Okinawa, Japan, and four tours of duty to South Korea. Jim enjoyed downhill skiing, biking, playing the concertina, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed the companionship of his pets, especially his dog Makita.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Robert and Arthur, and his nephew Gary Wanta.
Survivors include five daughter, Steffany (Jorge) Dominguez, Utah, Sandy (Mark) Leonetti, Idaho, Ann (Mike) Moore, Michigan, Kimberly (Justin) Buehler and Karrie (Jeff) Lane, both of Stevens Point; and his eleven grandchildren, Daniel, Jonathan, Jorge, Daisy and Luis, Nicholas and Lucas, Lily, Katherine and Elizabeth, and Jeffrey, Jacob and Joshua. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
