James "Jim" Schuh

James "Jim" P. Schuh, age 83, of Plover, died Wednesday Oct. 27, 2021 at Marshfield Medical Center in Weston, WI.

He was born May 26, 1938 in Milwaukee.  He is the son of the late George & Leona (Lauer) Schuh.  He received his BA degree in Liberal Arts from Marquette University.   He married Martha (Hampton) Schuh in 1968.  Jim lived and worked in Stevens Point-Plover since 1963 and retired in 1999.

Here are some of Jim's places of employment: Partner, Vice president, columnist, Portage County Gazette, 1999-2017.  President and Partner, WIZD-FM, Plover, 1990-1999 (retired from broadcasting in 1999).  Partner, Bay View Broadcasting Corp., WMOM, Ludington, MIGeneral Manager, WSPT, WSPT-FM, Stevens Point, 1972-1988. General Manager, WNAM, WUSW, Neenah-Oshkosh, 1988-1989. Adjunct professor, UWSP Division of Communication, 1982-2014.

Here is some of the service work Jim did over the years:  President, Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, 1987-1988, President, Fox Valley Radio Broadcasters, 1989. Member, Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council, 1989-1999. Founding member, Central Wisconsin Press Club, 1968. Member, Stevens Point Telecommunications Commission, 1978-1980; Chairman, 1980-1985. Member, Stevens Point Police and Fire Commission, 1986-1987.  Member, board of governors, American Heart Association of Wisconsin, 1988-1994; 1996-1998.  Member, board of directors, United Way of Portage County, 2000-2009. Chairman, Red Cross of Portage County, 2001-2006; Treasurer, 2007-2009.  Member, board of directors, Community Foundation of Portage County, 2003-2009. Past member, board of directors, Portage County Business Council; Monteverdi Master Chorale.  Member, Stevens Point Kiwanis (past-president) and Stevens Point Noon Lions (past-president).  Founding member, executive committee and board, LIFE (Learning is For Ever) adult learning in retirement organization, 2001 Chairman. St. Bronislava Parish Finance Council; 2000-2016; Parish Trustee, 2007-2016.  Chairman, UWSP Chancellor's Advisory Council, 2003 – 2006; emeritus member since 2006.  Member, UWSP Foundation Board, June, 2004-2014; president, 2010-2012; emeritus in 2015.  Member, Central Wisconsin Airport Board, June 2007-2017.  Secretary, St. Bronislava Parish Capital Campaign, 2007-2008.  Board member, Ministry Health Care/St. Michael's Hospital, 2006-2014; vice-chairman, 2011-2012; Chairman, 2012-2014; Secretary/Treasurer, 10/2009-10/2011; Finance Committee chairman, 1/ 2011-10/2011.  Board Member, Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation, April, 2011-2017.

Here is some of the recognition Jim received over his years of service:  Inducted into the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame, 2003.  Recipient, Portage County Business Council "Outstanding Contribution to Agriculture" (1997) and "Friend of Small Business" (2003) awards. Distinguished Alumnus, Marquette University College of Speech, 1969.  Plover Area Business Association Citizen of the Year, 2000.  St. Michael's Foundation Quality of Life Leadership Award, 2010 & Joint CWA Board, 2017.

In lieu of flowers donations in Jim's name to; Operation Bootstrap, St. Bronislava Parish, United Way of Portage County and UWSP Foundation would be appreciated.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Schuh; sister, Barbara Shanahan; niece, Kathy (Chen) Tan; nephew, Mike (Jennifer) Shanahan; great-nephews, Henry and Aaron Shanahan & Brendan and Ryan Tan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday November 3, 2021 at St. Bronislava Catholic Church at 3200 Plover Road in Plover. Rev. James Trempe will officiate.  Entombment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM concluding with a rosary prayed at 7:00 PM at the Pisarski Community Funeral Home at 2911 Plover Road in Plover.  Also, from 9:30 AM until the time for Mass Wednesday Morning at the Church.  Pisarski Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family.
