John A. Kowalski

June 29, 1931 — February 11, 2023

Stevens Point

John A. (Anthony) Kowalski, 91, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family and love at his home on February 11th, 2023.

He was born to John and Josephine (Kieruszenko) Kowalski on June 29th, 1931, in Rosholt, WI and grew up in the Ellis area. After attending school, John worked on his father's farm, where he developed his strong work ethic and a love for his family land. He met his wife of almost 65 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Konkol, while singing in the church choir. They married at Sacred Heart Church in August 1958 on the hottest day of the year after a Christmas Eve proposal.

John later went on to attend trade school to further develop his skills in welding, electricity, and carpentry, leading to a successful career as a maintenance engineer at Bakerite, St. Michael's Hospital, and Sacred Heart Parish. In addition to being able to fix anything, John had many passions including hunting, woodworking, taking care of his lawn and pond, raising beef cattle, picking wild mushrooms and blackberries, and being a father and grandfather.

He was a man of strong faith, funny jokes, and warm, embracing hugs. John was an usher at Sacred Heart Church, member of the St. Isadore Society and the Holy Name Society and was one of the first Extra Ordinary Ministers. In lieu of flowers, a memorial in John's name will be established at a later date.

John is survived by his wife, Betty Kowalski, two of his children: Cindy (Jim) Bernas and Paul (Yvonne) Kowalski, 5 grandchildren: JT Kowalski, Haley (Pesalili) Takau, Kate (Tim) Czaja, Alex (Amanda) Bernas, and Dan Bernas, one great-grandchild, Addison Bernas, and his brother, Dan (Mary) Kowalski, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two of his sons, John Kowalski and Allen Kowalski, and one infant daughter, Mary Kowalski, two brothers and nine sisters.
