Johnette "Johnny" Brouillard, 102, died peacefully at her home in Riverview Lodge in Stevens Point on March 23, 2021.
Johnny was born on March 14, 1919 at her home in Bear Creek, WI, near Spring Green, Wisconsin.
She was the daughter of John and Mary (Ruhland) Smyth. She was named Johnny after her father who died several months before her birth.
Johnette grew up on their farm with her mother and three sisters. She attended Platteville Teachers College where she met her future husband Clair, who was a student at the Ag College before he was called up to serve.
After graduating in 1942, she taught in several one room country schools in the Bear Creek area of Sauk County.
She married Clair Brouillard on May 15, 1944. When Clair was discharged from the Army Air Corps, the couple lived in military housing in Madison while Clair attended college.
After all the kids were in school, Johnny returned to work as a librarian for many years, retiring from the Stevens Point Public Library. Johnny kept busy during retirement with volunteer activities, gardening and needlework and lots of reading. Johnny passed on her love of reading and books to all of her children.
Johnette is survived by her children who were lucky enough to have her for so many years. That includes, Sharon Peterson of Portage, Joy Brouillard of Minneapolis, William (Jessica Winiarski) Brouillard of Cleveland, OH, Eugene (Sharon) Brouillard of Evansville, IN, Cynthia Brouillard (Jim Schymanski) of Mosinee, Richard (Tonya} Brouillard of Waterloo, and Pam Brouillard of Corpus Christi, TX., and four grandchildren; Lanette, Lisa, Brian and Clare, one great granddaughter Alyssa, and a great-great grandson Oliver.
Johnette was preceded in death by her husband Claire and her three sisters, Margaret, Florence and Blanche.
A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Church. The family would like to thank the staff of Riverview Lodge for providing a home with caring, good cheer and support for their mother for the years she resided there.
