Joyce Eleanor Filtz passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday March 22nd at Maple Ridge Memory Care in Plover. Joyce was born July 6, 1934, in South Milwaukee, daughter of late Julius and Esther Molnar. She grew up and went to high school in Milwaukee, then later met (on a blind date) her husband Peter, and they married on August 27, 1955. They celebrated 63 years together until his death in 2018. They lived in the Milwaukee area raising their children until moving north to the Bevent-Rosholt area in 1970.
Joyce was a joyful person and always had a way of making people laugh. She was the first one to write and send a card, pop in for a visit to say hi wearing one of her many funny hats, drop off a casserole or flowers, or would call to check in so others knew they were cared for. She loved to cook and bake. From her Hungarian and German heritage, she carried on many of the wonderful family recipes which were enjoyed immensely such as strudel, Hungarian sausage and Hungarian chicken. She also enjoyed playing cards with her card club, was a long-time member of the Red Hat Society, enjoyed the many road trip adventures with her daughters and daughter in laws and loved to attend parties with her friends. She was a strong woman of faith, loved her family at St. Ladislaus church and was a member of Family Life and the Rosary society for over 50 years. She helped to make homemade noodles, bakery for the bake sales, sang in the polish choir (even though she did not know polish) and volunteered to help her church in any way she could. Her church was her sanctuary, and she was always thankful for the support it provided her throughout the years.
Joyce started her career as a beautician, and as her children came along became the best stay at home mom any child could wish for. Later after all her children grew, she felt the need to continue to help others and become a realtor. For over 25 years she found many their first homes which brought her great joy and accomplishment. Every year on May 1st (May day), she had a tradition to hand deliver red geraniums to all those that had purchased a home to help them start their flower beds for their new house. Once retired she devote her time to her grandchildren and never missed a play, birthday party, track meets, concert or celebration. Gramma Joyce was always in the front cheering and smiling. She loved traveling with dad and all our families and was ready to go along anytime, anywhere including so many Boy Scout trips out of state. Mom and Dad were involved and supported our entire family with fundraising for 20+ years to help find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis.
Joyce is survived by her children Peter (Brenda) Filtz, Jeff Filtz, Cynthia Ferg, Candace (Sonny) Meronk, Judith (Alan) Budleski, Kathy (Chris) Ostrowski, 17 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Marge Filtz. She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Frederick "Fritz" Filtz.
Her family would like to thank the amazing care team at Maple Ridge, including Kelly for their love and compassion with Mom. They also extend their thanks to St. Croix hospice for their guidance.
If you knew mom, she always ended her conversations with a "Too ta loo", so Mom this is too ta loo for now till we meet again to share a piece of lemon meringue pie and an old fashioned in heaven.
In lieu of flowers, please consider giving a contribution directly to the St. Ladislaus Rosary society or consider doing an act of service or kindness by giving of yourself like Mom did.
