Kenneth "Ken" Dachyk died peacefully at The Lodge at Whispering Pines, Plover on December 16, 2022, after a brief illness at the age of 89.
Ken was born on January 25, 1933, in Milwaukee to August and Anna (Sharafinski) Dachyk. As a young child, the family relocated to Iola, Wisconsin. Ken graduated from Amherst High School and then attended UWSP for a short time before joining the US Army in 1951. Serving in the Korean war for the next three years, he proudly served as a Corporal in 25th Division Infantry Unit. In that time he was stationed at Camp Rucker in Alabama, later returning to Camp Gordon in Georgia where he was honorably discharged in 1954. Ken received several service awards including a Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, CI Badge, and Good Conduct Medal.
On May 7, 1955, Ken married the love of his life Anne Marie Kubisiak at St. Mary Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Fancher. Together, they welcomed five children into their family; Debra, Marcia, Barbara, Brian and Lori.
Ken retired in 1993 from Wisconsin Public Service Corporation after a rewarding career, working the majority of his years as a meter reader and then in the WPS warehouse.
In addition to being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather Ken was a lifelong member of the Holy Spirit Holy Name Society and volunteered many hours at Holy Spirit Parish. Ken was a Third Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council #1170, recently receiving his 50 year pin.
He and his wife Anne enjoyed singing with the Coraliers and attending Church picnics, and anywhere there was polka music. Together they enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the US and all Seven Continents. He enjoyed watching the Bucks, Packers and Brewers and was proud to have participated in the Honor Flight with his son Brian.
Ken is survived by his wife Anne of 67 years, and his children; Debra (Mike) Zdroik, Marcia (Randy) Richter, Barbara (Terry) Olds, Brian (Sandi) Dachyk, and Lori (John) Strojny.
He is further survived by grandchildren of whom he was extremely proud; Kathy, Carrie, Joseph, Bethany, Jordan, Chris, Amy, Emily, Matthew, and Benjamin, and also by great-grandchildren; Eleanor, Claire, Evelyn, Monroe, Henry, Gavin, Olivia, Jared, Hunter, Aubree, Beau, Camille, Grayson and Avarie.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Geraldine (Edgar) Kelnhofer, his Kubisiak in-laws and their spouses, and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial in his name will be established at a later date.
Our family would like to thank Alyssa and Melissa from Compassus and the entire staff at The Lodge at Whispering Pines for their compassion and care shown to dad, mom and our entire family.
Rest in peace Dad, you will be in our hearts forever and we will miss you dearly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Holy Spirit Parish - 2151 Stanley Street in Stevens Point. Rev. Steve Brice will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of service, with a rosary prayed at 9:15 am. Burial with full military honors will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery, Stevens Point.
