Leo "Lee" S. Ryczek, Jr., age 100, of Amherst, died Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Care Partners in Stevens Point under the care of Moments Hospice.
Lee was born on March 28, 1921 in Milwaukee, a son of Leo and Pearl (Zjala) Ryczek.
He attended Milwaukee Schools and Marquette University. While at Marquette, he was studying to become a Funeral Director, serving as an Apprentice Funeral Director.
In 1942, Leo enlisted in the United States Army serving Stateside. Upon his Honorable discharge, he began his career, owning his own Funeral Home in his hometown of Milwaukee, serving families for many, many years.
In May of 1969, he was united in marriage to the former Mary Megal at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Milwaukee.
After retiring, Lee sold his Funeral Home and the couple moved to Amherst.
He enjoyed walking and the annual bicycle rides in Door County with Mary, playing cards, golfing and traveling. One of his fondest trips was to Poland, with Mary, searching out family members.
He is survived by; his wife of 52 years, Mary; a niece, Karen (George) Rakowski, of CA; Nephew, Rick Maruszewski, of Milwaukee; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Leo was preceded in death by; his parents; three brothers; two sisters; and a nephew, Richard (Mary Kay) Maruszewski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at, St. James Catholic Church, 453 S. Main St., Amherst, WI 54406 on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 11:00AM with Rev. Jerzy Rybacz presiding. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a visitation at the Church on Wednesday from 9:00AM until the time of the Mass.
