Leone A. Bernas, age 97, peacefully passed away on Easter Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Wellington Manor.
She was born on June 14, 1924, in Stevens Point to Henry and Clara (Bonowski) Glodowski.
She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1942. Leone married Raymond C. Bernas on June 22, 1946.
Leone was employed by Hardware Mutuals Insurance (Sentry) and the secretary/bookkeeper for Ray Bernas Plumbing.
She was a volunteer, trained Red Cross Nurse's Aide at St. Michael's Hospital during WW2. She was a Woodland Girls Scout leader and board member, a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and a Life member of the Rosary Society #6 - Golden Rose. Leone was also a Life member of VFW Greater Plover Post #10262 Auxiliary--Golden Circle member, as well as a life member of the American Legion Post 6 Auxiliary. Leone was entered into the WW2 Memorial Registry of Remembrances in Washington, D.C., in recognition for her volunteer work during WW2. Her life was fulfilled spending time with family and doing things for them. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting, quilting, puzzles, reading, curling, bowling, golf (including two holes-in-one), and traveling.
Leone was preceded in death by her husband Raymond (2011); her brother, Henry Glodowski and her sisters, Dorothy Pionek and Delphine Ropella.
Survivors include her children, Bonnie (Terry) Alfuth, Palm Beach, Florida and Bette (James) Zaletel of Alexandria, Virginia; Grandsons, Eric (Hollie Kleitz) Alfuth, Houston, Texas and Todd (Amy) Alfuth, Jupiter, Florida; Great grandchildren, Martin and Mallory Alfuth, Jupiter, FL; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Those wishing to make a Memorial contribution in Leone's name are encouraged to do so to either; Holy Spirit Catholic Church Rosary Society (Bread & Wine) or Pacelli Education Foundation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2151 Stanley Street, Stevens Point, WI 54481, at 11:00AM on Thursday, April 21, 2022 with Rev. Steven J. Brice officiating. Burial will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a Visitation at the Church on Thursday from 9:30 until the time of the Mass.
