Margaret A. Bernas

March 28, 1942 — October 22, 2023

Stevens Point

Margaret Ann Bernas
March 28, 1942 – October 22, 2023

Margaret spent her last days surrounded by family and friends. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday evening October 22, 2023 at Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth, MN under the care of Hospice of Red River Valley.

She was born March 28, 1942, in Stevens Point to Edwin and Alice (Turzinski) Zagrzebski and graduated from Maria High School in 1961. In 1962 Margaret married Casimir J. "Moose" Bernas at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. The couple lived in Stevens Point where they raised their family and were members of St. Peter's parish, and then enjoyed winters in Fort Myers, Florida after they retired.

Before she was married, Margaret worked at the Whiting-Plover Paper Company. After raising her children, she had a 2nd career as a Swing Manager at the Stevens Point McDonalds Restaurant where she worked for more than 25 years.

More than anything, Marge loved to spend time with family and friends. She loved to travel and to entertain. Marge's favorite past times included tending her flower gardens, cooking, and shopping. She loved to dance and go bowling with her friends; and she enjoyed playing cards, reading and watching movies with her grandsons. She was the proud mother of a Marine Corp and an Airforce Veteran. Marge was an exceptional "from scratch" cook who always had homemade soups and meals cooking on the stove whenever she was expecting family and friends to visit.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Molly (Mike Kotte) of Fargo, ND; her son Greg (Sherry Daniels) Bernas of Stevens Point; former son-in-law, Peter Adams of Carlton, MN; five grandsons, Neal (Zarana), Jacob (Noelle), Erik and Ryan (Caitlyn) Adams and Connor Bernas; three great-grandchildren; Candon, Drayden and Francheska. Marge is also survived by her brothers, Ralph (Rita) Zagrzebski of Mesa, AZ  and Ted Zagrzebski of Queens Creek, AZ; her sisters, Marilyn (Bill Heilman) of Richland, WA and Linda Kight, of Belle Plaine, MN; sisters-in-law Virginia Zagrzebski of Arbor Vitae and Barbara Zagrzebski of Stevens Point; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Casimir; son Carl; parents, Edwin & Alice Zagrzebski; brothers, Edwin Jr., Richard, David, and Conrad Zagrzebski; sisters-in-law, Jeannette and Janice Zagrzebski, Genevieve and Leone Bernas and Stacia Firkus; brothers-in-law, Ray and Ed Bernas and Raymond Firkus; and many other family members and dear friends.

There will be an open visitation to celebrate Marge's life on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the Pisarski Funeral Home, 703 Second Street, Stevens Point, WI 54481 from 9 am – 11 am followed by a prayer service there, and a grave-site service at the Guardian Angel Cemetery Columbarium.
