Marian J. May, 99, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully at home with the loving care of her son Jeff on June 28, 2025. She was also under the care of Compassus Hospice and other family members.
Marian was born on April 29, 1926, in Sturgeon Bay, a daughter of the late John and Katherine (Mueller) Zelhofer. She was married to Russell May on April 10, 1948, at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Institute. Her husband Russell preceded her in death on January 16, 2014.
She attended grades 1-8 at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic school in Institute and graduated from Sevastopol High School. In later years she graduated from Waukesha Co. Technical College with a diploma as Unit Secretary. She worked in retail and at a Congregational Home in Brookfield.
In 1953 the couple moved to Elm Grove and in 1955 to Brookfield where they lived for 53 years raising their four sons and being active in the community and the St. Agnes parish in Butler.
Many of her hours were spent volunteering for RSVP-Tutoring, crocheting and sewing. She enjoyed reading, camping, gardening and especially loved playing many games of scrabble over the years. Most of all she enjoyed her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her four sons, Steven (Lori) of Stevens Point, Ronald (Cathy) of Verona, Jeffrey of Stevens Point and Randall (Karen) of Dousman. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and her sister, Roberta Zelhofer.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Katherine Bosman, Cecelia Delchambre and Germaine Hickson, brothers, Willard and John Zelhofer.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Marian will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday July 5, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church 1709 Wyatt Ave. Stevens Point. Rev Jeffrey Hennes will officiate. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church.
