Mark D. Pliska

May 13, 1958 — June 18, 2022

Stevens Point

Mark D. Pliska, age 64, of Stevens Point, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, June 18, 2022.  Mark was born in Stevens Point on May 13, 1958, son of Max and Bernice (Kluck) Pliska.

Mark attended and graduated from SPASH with the Class of 1976.  Upon graduation, he began his career with the paper mill, creating life-long friendships up until his retirement from Verso Corp. in 2020.  On August 11, 1979, he was united in marriage to his High School sweetheart, Debra Ann Szymkowiak, at St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Mark had a passion for hunting.  As an avid whitetail hunter, he would track phases of the moon, environmental factors, and daily routines in attempts to outwit a trophy whitetail.  He also enjoyed fishing, playing softball in his younger years, and being with friends.  He took great pride in his lawn, spending many hours mowing and trimming in order to achieve perfection.  However, above all, his greatest joy was being with his family.  As a devoted loving Husband, Mark took care of his wife Debra, throughout her 20-year struggle with Multiple Sclerosis.  During the last couple of years, spending time with his grandchildren made his life complete.

Mark is survived by his mother, Bernice of Stevens Point; two daughters, Jennifer Wenzel of Rosholt and Allyson (Joe) Skibinski of Stevens Point; grandchildren, Landon, Mason, Lucy, Madelynn, Joseph, Maverick and Thompson; his brothers, Michael (Elaine) Pliska of Knowlton and Randall Pliska of Waupaca; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Max; his loving wife Debra in October of 2019; and his beloved dog Daisy Mae.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at St. Peters Catholic Church with Rev. Todd Mlsna presiding.  Burial will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery.
