Mary Iwanowski

December 11, 1934 — July 5, 2023

Stevens Point

Mary Iwanowski, 88 of Stevens Point, passed away on Wednesday July 5, 2023, at Marshfield Medical Center, Marshfield.  Mary along with her twin sister, Genevieve Jansen, were born to the late Joseph & Martha (Simonis) Tryba on December 11, 1934.

Mary graduated from Mosinee High School in 1953. After graduating high school Mary moved to Philadelphia and later married the love of her life, Bernard (Bernie) Iwanowski on March 20, 1963, at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Philadelphia.

He preceded her in death on January 26, 1999. Although Mary and Bernie sadly did not have children, they loved children and were loved by many. Everyone knew her as "Aunt Mary" even if she wasn't your aunt.

In Philadelphia, Mary worked as a nursing assistant and at a little corner grocery store and finally retiring from a check cashing store.

Bernie always loved Wisconsin and that is how he came to meet Mary. Upon retirement, Bernie and Mary fulfilled Bernie's dream of becoming a Wisconsinite and moved to Stevens Point.

Mary made many friends in Stevens Point. She was easy go lucky. She enjoyed every church picnic in the area, listening to polka music, going out to eat with her friends and just visiting. Mary loved having company and hosting parties at her home. Mary even went to the Pulaski Polka Festival a few years.

Mary and Bernie loved to travel around. Some of their trips were to Paris, Florida, South Carolina, Hawaii, Tom's River, Shipbottom, Ocean City, Pocono Mountains and many back to Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ernie, Chet, Raymond, Daniel and Harold and sisters, Edna, Ida, Lorraine and Genevieve. Survivors include many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials in Mary's name can be made to the Children's Miracle Network in Marshfield.

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 11, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church 1709 Wyatt Ave. Stevens Point. Rev. Jeffrey Hennes will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Paul's Cemetery Mosinee.

Visitation on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church.
