Mary Louise Walkush of Whispering Pines, Plover passed away Thursday morning, June 23, 2022, at Aspirus St. Michael's Hospital with family by her side. Age 89, Mary was born on March 24, 1933, in Wausau, WI. She was the daughter of the late Anton J. and Mary (Klimek) Torzewski. She attended St. Michael Grade school in Wausau and graduated from Wausau High School.
After graduation she worked as a kindergarten teacher for several years. She then became employed at 1st American National Bank in Wausau as an Assistant Vice President until her retirement.
Her marriage to Albert J. Walkush took place on May 14, 1976, in Wausau. After their marriage the couple settled in Wausau for 41 years before moving to the Whispering Pines. Her husband Albert preceded her in death on February 8, 2019.
She was a member of St. Bronislava Catholic Church where she organized and was the first chairperson of the Justice and Peace Committee. She taught CCD and was also a member of the choir for many years. In her younger years Mary enjoyed skiing, golf, traveling and flying in Al and her personal small aircraft. She later enjoyed bingo, playing the piano, music (especially Frank and Dean), sewing, and spoiling her family. She was very proud to have been a part of the B.A.B.E.S reading program at the elementary school and playing the Wise Owl while reading to the kids.
Survivors includer her daughter, Karen Lutz of Stevens Point and her son Thomas Walkush of Plover. Her Grandchildren Kody (Caitlin) Lutz, Katie (Andrew) Lutz-Dahms, Dalton Lutz (Makayla Karpinski), and Ben Walkush. Also survived by her eight great grandchildren, Ana, Bauer, Gabby, Emma, Kole, Ellie, Gunner, and Karlee. Nieces and nephews, and special friend Ernestine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert, two brothers, Edmund and Eugene. Two sisters, Christine and Dorothy. Her son-in-law, Kerry Lutz, Tim Meyer and Karen's fiancé, Paul Stanislawski.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday June 28, 2022, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church 3200 Plover Road Plover. The Very Rev. Ed Shuttleworth will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation on Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until time of service at St. Bronislava Church.
