Maynard F. Shulfer

Maynard F. Shulfer passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2020 at St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point due to complications of COVID-19.

He was born on April 29, 1942, son of the late Elbert and Alice (Mrochinski) Shulfer. He married Germaine (Gerri) Woytasik on May 28, 1966 at St. Peter's Church in Stevens Point. They were married 54 years.

Maynard attended Catholic grade school, St. Mary's of Mt. Caramel, to 8th grade. He graduated from Amherst High School in 1960.

After graduation, he joined the Army National Guard of Wisconsin. He was in the 32nd Infantry Division Artillery during the Berlin Crisis. Maynard was honorably discharged on September 12, 1963.

He worked for Foremost Foods in Plover for 30 years. He retired from there.

Maynard loved being outdoors. Camping with his wife and daughters was a highlight each summer. His younger years also included deer hunting and fishing. He loved to go fishing in Canada with his cousins and friends. Maynard spent time helping his brother and nephews with their business, Shulfer's Sprinklers and Landscaping. His lawn was a reflection of his desire to work outside.

Sports was one of his passions. Maynard loved watching any Packers, Brewers or Badgers game. He was especially fond of basketball, including the Amherst boys and girls' teams. He also enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races with family and friends. He appreciated anything and everything related to sports.

After retirement, he enjoyed going out to eat at the Amherst Cafe and South Point Restaurant with his brothers and his buddies. He loved this bonding time with the boys.

Maynard is survived by his wife, Germaine (Gerri) and three daughters: Brenda (Dana) Krzykowski, Lisa (Eric) Voight and Carrie Shulfer; six grandchildren: Rhett, Tia, Kaidee, Andrew, Zander and Spencer; two brothers: Myron, his twin and Ronald (Carol); two sisters: Shirley (DeLoyd) Slowinski and Maxine King. He is further survived by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, Laura Woytasik; father-in-law, Henry Woytasik Sr.; five brothers-in-law: Bob King, Leroy Woytasik, Henry Woytasik Jr., Jerry Raschka, Carl Pongratz Sr.; two sisters-in-law: Jeanette Shulfer, Sherry Woytasik and two nephews: Jerry King and Carl Randy Pongratz Jr.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at a later date.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday January 9, 2021, at St. Mary's of Mt. Caramel Church, 3995 Co. Rd. K, Amherst. Father Brandon Guenther will officiate. Burial with full military honors to follow in the parish cemetery. Masks and social distancing will be required at the church.

The family would like to thank the entire staff in the ER/ICU department at Ascension St. Michael's Hospital. They did an amazing job with Maynard. They are our heroes.
