It is with great sadness that the family of Melvyn Gregory Rousseau announces his passing on Friday, November 19th, 2021. Born on December 16th, 1953, he was 67 years old.
Melvyn was born in Chicago, IL and raised in the south suburbs of Markham and Harvey, IL. He moved to Stevens Point, WI for college, where he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. Later on in his career, he continued his education, earning his Masters of Science in Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He resided in Stevens Point for over 40 years.
He spent almost 30 years of his career at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in various leadership roles, supporting students of color and first-generation college students. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, golfing and introducing the community to "soul food" with his world-famous mac and cheese. Melvyn was kind, generous and full of life. He will be remembered for his contagious laugh, soulful vocals and wide-ranging celebrity impressions.
Melvyn will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Lori; children Sebastian and Cameron; mother Eugenia; siblings Timothy, Angela, Steven, Chris and Michael; and other family, friends and community members he met and interacted with. Melvyn is preceded in death by his father Samuel; and siblings Samuel and Shaun.
A celebration of Melvyn's life and impact on the Stevens Point community will be held on Friday, December 3rd, 2021, social gathering from 2PM to 3PM with a presentation at 3PM in the Lee Sherman Dreyfus University Center - Alumni Room at 1015 Reserve Street, Stevens Point, WI 54481.
