Neil Joseph Simon, age 49 of Stevens Point, passed away late Tuesday morning on August 24, 2021 at Ascension St. Michaels Hospital with his loving family at his side after a long battle with COVID.
Neil was born on October 24, 1971 in Geneseo, IL. He is the son of Deacon Nick and Norma Simon.
Neil was raised in Atkinson, IL, and graduated from Geneseo High School in 1990. He then attended UW- Stevens Point where he received an Associate Degree in Forestry.
He married Amy Helgeland on June 24, 2000 in Columbus, WI. After their marriage the couple settled in Stevens Point. His wife Amy survives.
Neil worked for more than 25 years in management positions in the potato industry, and was currently serving as Assistant Plant Manager and Supervisor of Maintenance for Heartland Farms Inc. of Hancock. Neil was very generous with his free time, especially for youth activities. He served as a Cub Master and Scout Leader, coaching in the Youth Baseball Program, and was currently defensive coach for the Central Wisconsin Select Lacrosse Team. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, trap shooter and enjoyed teaching out-of-door skills to young sportsmen. He was an active member of Holy Spirit Parish, and also served as a First Responder.
Neil is survived by his wife Amy, a daughter Elaina Schuh (Brandon Pavlac) of Eau Claire, WI., two sons; Kenny and Shane Simon both of Stevens Point. His parents Deacon Nick and Norma Simon of Atkinson, IL, and his sister Nancy (Rich) Kiphuth of Tunis, Tunisia. Further survived by his mother-in-law Kathy Helgeland of Columbus, WI, his Sisters-in-laws Wendy (Steve) Lane of Columbus, WI, and Lori Helgeland (Amy Myers) of Lander, WY., and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
Neil loved spending time with his family and friends, and was always willing to help others. He will be missed. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Neil's name.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Rev. Steve Brice officiating. Burial will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Family and friends may visit from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the Pisarski Funeral Home, 703 Second St., and from 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday in the Family Parish Center at Holy Spirit Parish.
There will be a rosary at 7:00 P.M. Monday evening at the Funeral Home.
