Patricia J. Zdroik

August 23, 1934 — January 27, 2025

Stevens Point

Patricia "Pat" J. Zdroik, 90, of Stevens Point, died peacefully on January 27, 2025 surrounded by her loving family on the second floor, in the hospital in which she worked many years of her life. Pat was born at home in the Town of Hull, North of Stevens Point, on August 23, 1934. Pat was the eldest of four daughters born of John Joseph Meronek and Phylis Marcella Woyak. Pat was baptized and had all her Sacraments at St. Peter Catholic Church in Stevens Point. A few of her most memorable events were her First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and the processions at the Easter Sunday Sunrise Mass each year. Pat spent many summers on her grandparents' farm in the Town of Sharon. She helped in the fields, mostly picking green beans. One of her childhood pastimes included reading, especially prose and poetry. Her favorite poem was "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost. She also loved going to school to learn new things. Her family didn't go on vacations but spent Sundays and holidays going to church and visiting grandparents. Pat attended St. Peter Grade School, St. Joseph Academy, and then went on to St. Mary School of Nursing, Wausau, WI. After nursing school graduation, Pat went to work in Pediatrics at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, IL, and later as an Office Nurse for Dr. Stanley S. Miller in Stevens Point.

Pat married Leonard Zdroik on January 18th,1958, and their marriage was blessed with six children. When Leonard moved on to Illinois about 1971, Pat heroically raised all six children by herself. Her greatest goal, in which she succeeded in, was to be sure that all her children received their Sacraments in the Catholic Church. She went to work at St. Michael's Hospital on the Medical Unit on the 2nd floor, until she retired in 1996. Pat made sure to keep her RN license current up until the end of her life. The hospital called weekly during Covid time to see if she would come back to work. She let them know that she struggled walking, so she couldn't make it back to work.

After her retirement, Pat gave herself to the service of family and friends. She lavishly loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and anyone else who called her grandma. She baked, crocheted, gardened, quilted, sewed, and never forgot a birthday or anniversary. She also enjoyed researching genealogy. Pat continued to be an avid reader throughout her life. Her favorite authors were Charles Dickens, Ellery Queen, and Agatha Christie. She favored classical music, especially Mozart and Schubert, and also liked listening to Nat King Cole, Frankie Laine, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, and Patti Page. John Wayne was her favorite actor, along with Angela Lansbury. Pat was a regular attendee at many church, extracurricular, and sporting events of her grandchildren, and spent lots of time babysitting throughout the years. Pat was blessed to go on the vacation of her dreams in 2004. Her son, Eric and her daughter, Jean, took their Mother on an Alaskan cruise.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard, and her three younger sisters: Irene (Ray) Shuda, Beverly (Jerry) Kowlaski, Barbara (Bill) Clussman, and  brothers-in law: Jerome Kowalski, William Clussman, Frank Bousley, Florian Klasinski, and Emil Zdroik. She is also preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Shelly Zdroik. She is survived by brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law: Madeline Klasinski, Ray Shuda, Butch & Carol Zdroik, Kenneth & Alice Zdroik, Mary Boushley, and many nieces and nephews.

Pat is survived by her children: Mark Zdroik, Kurt (Kathy) Zdroik, Eric (Shelly) Zdroik, Neil Zdroik, and twins, Jean (Frank) Alvarez and Jeff (Kris) Zdroik. She is also survived by  grandchildren: Brian and Rachel Zdroik, Brianne, Christy, Joshua (Linzy) Zdroik, Eli (Kayla) Zdroik, Noah Zdroik, Isaiah (Alexis) Zdroik, Caleb (Felicia) Zdroik, Daniel Zdroik, Gemma Zdroik, Jacinta Zdroik, Joseph Zdroik. She is further survived by 8 great-grandchildren: Sidney, Brandon, Harper, Reagan, Kylie, Gianna, Jaxton, & Kasen Zdroik. She is also preceded in death by 6 grandchildren: Francis Mary, Aaron Frances, Macrina Ann, Obadiah Michael, Philomena Rose, and Faustina Grace - all born into the arms of the Lord, and 3 great-grandchildren born into the arms of the Lord.

May the soul of Patricia J. Zdroik, and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. And may perpetual light shine upon them. Amen.
