Paul Kliegl passed away peacefully on July 19, 2022, at Whispering Pines in Plover, WI while under the care of Heartland Hospice.
Paul, the son of Joseph and Annabelle Kliegl, was born on February 16, 1931 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. After graduating from Emmetsburg Catholic High, Paul joined the United States Army and proudly served before and during the Korean War.
Paul married Violet Duitsman on December 27, 1950. Paul attended Iowa State University in Ames. He was employed at Iowa Farm Bureau as manager of the farm supply business in several Iowa communities. Paul was general manager of the C-D Farm Service Company in Spencer, IA. Paul and Violet moved to Webster City, IA where he worked for Felco/Land O'Lakes at the regional corporate office in Fort Dodge, IA as Manager of the Materials Handling Division.
In 1983, Paul and Violet moved to Amherst, WI to enjoy a quieter life. Paul managed the Tomorrow Valley Co-op and eventually merged it with three other Co-ops. After his retirement, Paul enjoyed his favorite pastimes: fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. Paul, a recovering alcoholic, helped establish a 40-bed alcoholic recovery center in Fort Dodge, serving six counties in Iowa and was president of the facility's board of directors. Paul served as Chairperson for the Amherst Planning commission and was Village President for 10 years.
Paul was involved in developing the Village's TIF District, Planning/construction phases of the Amherst Wastewater Treatment facility, and merging fire departments to form the Amherst Fire District. Paul coordinated a million-dollar endowment between the Blanc family and the Tomorrow River Community Foundation to develop, build, and maintain the Lettie W. Jensen Memorial Community Center opening in August of 1988.
Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife Violet, his parents Joseph and Annabelle Kliegl, Step-mother Lillian Kliegl, In-laws Hillis and Dorothy Duitsman, sisters and brother, and infant granddaughter Abigail Weieneth. He is survived by his children: Sandi (Bob) Weieneth, Webster City, IA, Ruth Faivre, Elroy, AZ, Patricia (Greg) Sipla, Stevens Point, Paul (Julie) Kliegl, Plover.
Grandchildren: Bradley Olson, Trisha (Lee) Vaughter, Jaclyn (Justin) Frymark, Casey Schoettmer, Dustin (Katie) Schoettmer, Martina (Jesse) Johnson, Michael Johnson, AJ (Rachael) Weieneth, William (Paris) Weieneth, Becky (Cody) Barrett, Danielle Kliegl, Lucas Kliegl, plus 17 great grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI. The family would like to thank the staff at Whispering Pines for their excellent and loving care and also Heartland Hospice for their very compassionate care.
