Raymond 'Rayme' L. Gagas, 95, of Polonia, died peacefully surrounded by his family on
Tuesday, July 30th, 2024 at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital.
Ray was born March 29th, 1929 in Stevens Point to Frank and Mary (Piotrowski) Gagas. He
learned the values of being a hard worker through growing up on the family farm and enjoyed
being outdoors all his life by hunting and fishing with friends and family.
He attended local schools until the eighth grade when he then worked on the family farm until he
went to serve in the Army. Ray was honorably discharged from the Army on March 23rd, 1955.
He was a lifetime member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 185. After returning
from the Army, Ray met his wife Dorothy (Wroblewski) and they were united in marriage on
October 10th, 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia. They had 65 long and wonderful
years that blessed them with 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Ray started work as a dump truck driver where he worked for 35 years. He retired from truck
driving to work the family farm and relaxed doing what he loves, cutting trees and having large
bonfires with the leftover branches, cutting grass all summer long, gardening, spending quiet
time outdoors, and enjoying a shot of Rock n Rye for every holiday and special occasion with
family and new friends he met along the way. Ray was a very dedicated family man who made his relationships with family members a number one priority, with his friends a close second.
He was a good hearted man who would have dropped everything to help a neighbor, friend, or even stranger on the road. He held compassion and loyalty very close to himself and was a very devout Catholic who centered his life around being a good person and a good Christian.
