Richard J. Gosh, of Stevens Point, passed away Tuesday evening, March 16, 2021 at the Marshfield Medical Center at the age of 87.
Richard was born October 20, 1933 in Arnott, WI to the late Joseph and Anna (Buza) Gosh. He attended local schools, graduating from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1951. Richard served in the US Army; he was honorably discharged on September 25, 1962 after serving two years with the Airfield Operation ELM at Ft. Eustis, Virginia and a four-year stint in the US Army Corp Reserves.
His marriage to Anita Groshek took place on April 18, 1959 at St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Fancher. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2019.
After Richard and Anita were married, they resided in Milwaukee; Richard worked at Cutler Hammer for fifteen years before returning home to Arnott in 1967. They came back to take ownership of the Trading Post from Anita's father Leonard Groshek who had recently been elected to the State Assembly. While also maintaining the store and the home, Richard worked at the Consolidated Paper Mill in Stevens Point. He retired in 1997 after serving for 30 years. He also had time to serve as Stockton Town Treasurer for 10 years. After his retirement he continued working as a courier for St. Michael's Hospital medical services. When that job ended, he didn't sit still, volunteering at St. Michael's for many years. Richard enjoyed bowling and was an avid Wisconsin sports fan of the Badgers, Packers and especially the Brewers.
Richard was a charter member of the Arnott Lions Club, present at the founding. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials in his name be sent to the Arnott Lions Club c/o Mary Shepherd, 1707 County Road K, Custer, WI 54423. Please make personal checks payable to the Arnott Lions Club.
Family was very important to Richard and he was a loving father and grandfather. Survivors include his son Kevin (Kayla) Gosh of Waukesha, his daughter Andrea (Mark) Eiting of Kaukauna, and three grandchildren Karsen (Andreas Boszhardt) Gosh and Addison and Madelyn Eiting. He is further survived by two sisters: Adeline Solberg and Lorraine Grzechowiak both of Milwaukee.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Anita, a granddaughter Kallie Gosh, two brothers Leonard and Harold and two sisters Margaret Mansavage and Elaine Gosh.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the compassionate care given to Richard by the EMTs, nurses, aids and doctors at Ascension St. Michael's Emergency Room, Ascension Wisconsin Spirit Medical Transport, the Marshfield Medical Center CCU and Palliative Care Services. You are all heroes and we thank you.
