Richard T. Konkol

April 2, 1950 — October 25, 2024

Custer

Richard T. Konkol, 74, of Custer passed away peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, October 25, 2024, surrounded by his four loving daughters.

Richard was born on April 2, 1950 in Orofino, Idaho, the son of the late Ambrose and Sophie (Armatowski) Konkol. He was a 1968 graduate of Riverside High School in Milwaukee, WI. On May 15, 1971, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Linda S. Konkol (Omernik), until her passing on December 2, 2015. Richard took pride in his work and upon graduating high school began working with Mengel Construction from 1968-1976. He then continued his employment at Copps Corporation (later Roundy's) from 1977 until his retirement in 2012.

Throughout his life, Richard focused on family and his faith. He was a soft-spoken, loving man whose most treasured moments were spent with his wife, four daughters and spouses, and eight grandchildren. Richard enjoyed traveling and exploring new places with his loved ones. One of his most treasured trips included a return to his birthplace in Orofino, Idaho and the town of Konkolville in 2021. He loved sharing stories about his childhood days on the farm, working on the road, and times spent with friends and family. Richard took immense pride in everything he did, especially meticulously maintaining his lawn. In his free time, he could often be found attending sporting events, dance recitals, and school activities for his grandchildren. Richard was a man of profound faith, regularly attending mass and working social functions including church picnics and steak nights. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Saint Isidore Society, serving as president for a few years.

Richard is lovingly survived by his four daughters, Jennifer (Kelly) Esker, Rebecca (Ben) Haen, Sarah (Chad) Calaway, and Amy (Tim) Leirness; grandchildren, Cade (fiancé Colleen Arnold), Meghan, and Wyatt Esker, Christopher (Michaela) and Claire Kintop, Zander Calaway, and Eliza and Iris Leirness; siblings Florence Laska, Ron (Linda) Konkol, Betty Kowalski, Gary Konkol, sisters-in-law, Barbara Konkol, Eileen Konkol and Pat Yenter. In addition to his wife and parents, Richard is preceded in death by his biological parents, Bernard and Esther (Konkol) Yenter; brothers, Clarence Konkol, Myron (Glenes) Konkol, James Konkol, Frank Konkol, and Melvin Yenter, and brothers-in-law Alois Laska and John Kowalski.
