Robert J. Check

Of Stevens Point passed away early Monday morning , July 4, 2022 at the Wisconsin Rapids Health Care Center in Wisconsin Rapids. Age 81 Robert was born January 18, 1941 in Stevens Point.

He was the son of the late Peter and Lillian (Glodowski) Check. He attended St. Peter Elementary Grade school, and graduated from Pacelli High school in 1959.

His marriage to Margaret Butkus took place on September 11, 1965 at St. Peters Catholic Church. After their marriage the couple settled in Stevens Point. His wife Margaret survives.

Robert worked for American Motors in Kenosha for a several years before beginning his career in law enforcement. He worked for the Stevens Point Police Department until 1966. He then transferred to the Portage County Sheriff's Department, retiring on March 8, 1997 as a Lieutenant.

Robert won numerous titles for field trial and conformation with his line-bred imported German Shorthair Pointer dogs. He sold them internationally. He also compiled a pedigree ancestry data base with over 10,000 entries. He grew and imported roses from England , Germany and Canada and had many different gardening societies come to view his gardens especially the roses.

He always enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing often in his younger years.

Survivors include his wife Margaret, his six children; Duane (Deborah) Check of Reedsburg, WI., Debra  Check – Janisch and Christopher Janisch of Wauwatosa, WI., Pamela (Theodore) Ashbeck of Wisconsin Rapids, Brian Check of Janesville, WI., Julianne (Brian) Kalpinski of Eau Claire, WI., and Rachelle (Matthew) Waterman of Waunakee,WI. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren; Lucy, Luke, Joseph, David, Lilly, Francie, Teddy, Abigail, Paige, Marek and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters; Dolores Engum, Charlotte Gollon and Marie Galecki

Robert was a very conscientious, dedicated worker, having retired with 180 accumulated sick days, and a devoted family man.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Thursday July 7, 2022 at St. Peters Catholic Church. Rev. Arul Joseph Visuvasam officiating. Burial will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Wednesday July 6, 2022 at the Pisarski Funeral Home and from 10:00 AM Thursday at the St. Faustina Room of St. Peters Church until the time for mass. There will be a parish Rosary at 6:00 PM to conclude the visitation. The Pisarski Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family.
