Sister Mary Ann (Pius) Stoltz , age 87, a Sister of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis for 68 years, died on November 19, 2024, at Regina Health Care Center in Richfield, Ohio. Sister Mary Ann was born on May 2, 1937, in the Town of Weston in Marathon County at the home of her maternal grandparents, John and Anastasia Wanta. She is the daughter of the former Emil and Susan (Wanta) Stoltz of Stevens Point, WI.
She attended St. Peter Grade School and then graduated from Maria High School in 1955. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis in 1955 and was received into the novitiate in 1956, pronouncing her perpetual vows on August 10, 1962.
Sister Mary Ann earned her B.S. in Education from St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI. She ministered as a teacher in Catholic Schools in Green Bay, La Crosse, River Falls, and Milwaukee. She was principal of schools in Thorp and Eau Claire.
She received her master's degree at the Boston School of Theology and Religious Education in Boston, MA. Sister Mary Ann was then Director of Religious Education at Most Precious Blood in New London and at St. Therese in Appleton. She was a Pastoral Minister at St. Patrick in Elroy and St. Bronislava Parish in Plover, WI.
Sister retired in 2007 and resided at St. Joseph Motherhouse offering supportive services for the sisters and was a part-time Chaplain at Whispering Pines and Lodge for 5 years.
Sister Mary Ann is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Lou, nieces and nephews, cousins and the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Susan, sister, Sister Barbara, brothers, John and Raymond.
Visitation for Sister Mary Ann will be held on May 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at Pisarski Funeral Home, 703 Second Street, Stevens Point. A Prayer of Remembrance will begin promptly at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place following the prayer service at the Sisters Cemetery on the former convent grounds known now as The Grove, 1300 Maria Drive, Stevens Point.
