Stanley Bossenbroek, age 73, passed away on Aug. 31 st at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Stanley was born May 5, 1949 in Beaver Dam, WI. He was the 5 th and last child born to Leonard and Nancy (nee Anderson) Bossenbroek. He moved to Tucson, AZ at age 7 where he spent the rest of his younger years.
He served in the Army from 1969-1971, was a graduate of Officer Candidate School and became a 1 st Lieutenant in charge of his platoon in Vietnam at age 19. Stanley graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI and began his career at Sentry Insurance there.
He married Pam Tierce, was blessed with two children and moved to Stevens Point, WI to work at Sentry Insurance where his career there would span 36 years. They would later divorce. In 1985 Stanley married Roseanne Honeyager and expanded his family by two.
He passed on his love of nature, the great outdoors, hunting and fishing to his children. His favorite moments in life were the births of his children, followed by fishing trips to Canada with his brother Larry, and son's Brandon and Nick. Other special moments were family trips to National Parks in Canada and the U.S., and the recent attendance of his first and only Packer game at Lambeau Field with his wife, brother Larry and brother in law Roger Honeyager. Summer family trips to Lake Buckatabon were a tradition since 1986. As the family grew, the fun and laughter multiplied. What was once a small gathering of a few is now larger than ever.
Stan was thrilled to be able to attend all four of his children's weddings, experience the joy of holding seven of his grandchildren, and tried to his very best to be here for the birth of his 8 th grandchild due in October, but it was not to be.
Stan is survived by his wife of 37 years Roseanne, sons Brandon (Sarah) of Oregon, Nicholas (Melissa) of Wisconsin, and daughter's Meagann (Paul) Little of Colorado, Erin (Mike) Johnson of Wisconsin, grandchildren Gus & Jack Bossenbroek, Scott and Leah Little, Everly and Roman Johnson, and baby boy B. due in October.
He is also survived by his brother Larry (Harriet), sisters Irene (Vern) Vosekalns and Roberta Bossenbroek, brothers-in-law Roger (Deb) Honeyager, John (Loretta) Honeyager, sister-in-law Mary Slattery, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Nancy Bossenbroek, brother Boyd, brother-in-law Larry Honeyager, father and mother-in-law LeRoy and Mollie Honeyager and grandson Harrison Little.
No matter the issues through life, including his declining health, Stan never complained. He might be remembered as quiet and unassuming, but always regarded as very bright and very kind; a gentle man and a gentleman. Stan was, unequivocally , one of the good ones! A tribute by his son Nick sums up the love we all have for him.
" Dear Dad, I know you're not one for sappy words or drawn out emotional moments, so I'll try to keep this short. I love You. Every single day of my life I've thought about how much I love you. My favorite parts of life have been the moments we have shared together. If I could hit rewind and watch them all over again on the big screen, it's all I would do. I couldn't have asked for a better father, a better mentor, or a better friend. Life is not perfect, people are not perfect, but life with you has been all I could have ever asked for. I wouldn't change a thing. If you remember one thing, remember this: When you get to where you're going…get the boat ready! Grab a few beers along the way, buy some bait and put new line on the reels. Explore those heavenly waters and find the honey holes. Watch the morning fog roll out over the water as you listen to the loons wail across the bay. Let the waters rock you gently along your peaceful journey. And know without a single doubt in your mind, we are not very far behind, with extra bait, extra beer, and an eternity of time with you. Love, your best friend and son, Nick."
THE FISHERMAN'S PRAYER
God grant that I may live to fish, until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray.
When in the Lord's safe landing net, I'm peacefully asleep.
That in His mercy I be judged, good enough to keep.
Many thanks to the Compassus Hospice team that assisted with Stan's health needs for the past two years, in particular, Donna, Mary, Jenny and Johnny for their genuine kindness, attention and professionalism.
