Vincent "Junior" S. Herek

Vincent "Junior" S. Herek of Custer passed away Saturday afternoon: June 24th, 2023 at the Stevens Point Health Services with his loving family at his side, while under the care of Compassus Hospice.  Age 94, Vincent was born May 18th, 1929 on the homestead in the town of Stockton.  He was the son of the late Vincent Sr. and Frances (Berna) Herek.

Vincent attended Oakland grade school in Custer.  Vincent was a dedicated, hardworking farmer all his life.  He purchased his father's farm and retired from farming at the age of 67 y/o.  His marriage to his beloved wife, Angeline S. Michalski, took place on January 28th, 1956.  She preceded him in death on October 23, 1983.

Vincent's favorite thing to do was taking care of his yard. He spent many hours on his riding lawn mower.  He also enjoyed watching the Brewers, deer hunting, mushroom and berry picking, word search puzzles, bird watching and listening to Polka music. He loved when his family and friends came to visit him.  His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his biggest pride and joy.

Survivors include his three children: Beverly (John) Zinda of Rosholt, Linda (Ken) Wierzba of Stevens Point and Lenny (Valerie) Herek of Custer.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jeremy Zinda, Jason (Nancy) Zinda, Ryan (Lyndsey) Herek, Dan (Chrissy Kramm) Wierzba, Angela (Ray Johnson) Wierzba, Ashley (Tony) Kettenbeil and Travis Herek and seven great-grandchildren: Landon, Maddy, Jameson, Carly, Mason, Amara, and Alivia along with two step-great-grandchildren: Hunter and Haven.

He is also survived by his sister, Delores Yenter.  He was preceded in death by his wife, seven sisters, two brothers and one grandson, Alan Zinda.

The family would like to thank the 5th floor nursing and medical staff at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital, along with the Stevens Point Health Services nursing staff and Compassus Hospice for the exceptional and compassionate care given to Vincent.

Mass of Christian Burial for Vincent will be held on Thursday June 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 7379 Church Street Custer WI. Rev. Mark Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
