Virginia Zakoski, age 72, entered her final resting place on February 14, 2022.
Virginia was born October 7, 1949 in Stevens Point to Joseph and Delphine (Bembenek) Zakoski. Virginia attended and graduated from Maria High School, Stevens Point in 1967.
Virginia spent all of her life making huge impacts into lives of people in the community. In her younger years she became a Big Sister through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, where she met her first little, Lisa Johnson and they became lifelong friends. In 1995 she received the Jack Martin Award in recognition of her extraordinary service, and going above and beyond to advocate for BB/BS. She then went on to have multiple other littles whose lives she would impact over her 21 years in the program. Virginia later became an amazing advocate for those in Community Friends and Community Partners, where she could continue her passion to bless, encourage and support people of all kinds and abilities. She made it her point to make everyone feel special.
Virginia spent most of her working career doing what she loved most: Enriching the lives of people with disabilities- through jobs, helping them with cooking and shopping, friendship or whatever else that would be of benefit to them. For the last eight years, up until her death, she enjoyed working with the IRIS program with Maritza and Raphael Smith, and oh how they loved having her in their lives.
Virginia loved collecting angels, Precious Moments and Mickey Mouse figurines. She also loved country western music, watching Kids from Wisconsin every year, as well as enjoyed traveling to concerts, Branson Mo, Nashville Tn, Disney World, New York City and Hawaii to name a few. Although Virginia faced many challenges in her life, she was not going to be held back by them.
Virginia had a huge heart and shown great kindness to anyone she could. She loved celebrations and giving gifts, which both brought her great joy! She has touched so many lives, and we are better because of her. She will be greatly missed by all of us who knew and loved her.
This sums up Virginia: A friend loves at all times Proverbs 17:17a
Virginia is survived by her sister Mary Ann Sankey, brother Richard (Delores) Zakoski as well as 2 nieces, 4 nephews, many other family and close friends, and not to forget, her furry friend Snowball. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Delphine (Bembenek) Zakoski and brother-in-law John Sankey.
