Walter R. Koczorowski,  Age 72, of Stevens Point died early Friday morning, February 4, 2022 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield

Walter was born July 8, 1949 to Joseph and Eva ( Hammang ) Koczorowski in Stevens Point. He attended St. Stephens Grade School, and P.J. Jacobs High School graduating in 1967. He was a varsity swimmer excelling in the 400 yd freestyle and the 400 yd freestyle relay events. He was a lifeguard for the city and held a job a Spurgeon's store during his high school years.

After graduating from High School, he worked for Consolidated Papers, Wisconsin River Division until his enlistment in the United States Army on December 5, 1968. He was trained as a Reconnaissance Scout and graduated first in his class. Her served his tour of duty in the 1 st Bn 15 Inf. Regt. 3 rd Inf. Div. in Kitzingen, Germany and was assigned to a mortar platoon until his honorable discharge on November 28, 1970 with many letters of commendations.

He then went back to work for Consolidated Papers until his retirement on January 2, 2004. He married Paula Torgeson in 1976, and the couple later divorced. Together they had one son, Erik.

Walter was an avid PADI certified Scuba diver for many years attaining his Open Water SCUBA Instructor certification, with an "Ice Diver" certification, and was qualified to teach Underwater Navigation, Deep Diving, Underwater Photography, Wreck Diving and Night Diving. Among his diving travels he traveled to The Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the Bahamas, Bonaire, Master Scuba Diver training schools in West Palm Beach, FL, the Red Sea in Egypt and various lakes in Wisconsin.

He enjoyed traveling, and has traveled to various parts of Germany, France, Ireland, Norway, Egypt, Greece, Turkey and Canada. He was also an avid camper in Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota (the Boundary Waters Canoe Area), Wyoming, Colorado and many annual trips to South Dakota varmint shooting. Among his many hobbies and interests were gardening, wood-working, reloading ammunition, tying flies, hunting, fishing, sailing, white-water canoeing and especially archery.

He was a member of the Blackhawk Archers for many years and was currently the Webmaster that designed and maintained the website for the Blackhawk Archers. He was one of the founding fathers of the Westside Stump Jumpers Snowmobile club many years ago located in the Town of Linwood.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Walter's name will be established at a later date.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Joseph and two sisters Eva and Mary Ellen.

Walter is survived by his son Erik (Samantha) and his two grandchildren Roman and Vera, and two nieces Tracy and Barb. Funeral Services will be 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at the Pisarski Funeral Home, 703 Second St. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home until the time for services.
