Anton "Tony" Hirzy, 79, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 24, 2018. His Hungarian-German tenacious personality kept him a fighter to the end.

He was born on March 22, 1939 to Ferdinand Hirzy and Ilse (Schuman-Heink) Hirzy Lee in Stevens Point. He attended St. Stephen grade school and graduated in 1957 from PJ Jacobs High School.

He entered the United States Marine Corps in 1957 and was proud to serve his country. He was stationed in 29 Palms, California and Okinawa, Japan. Following his military duty, he began work at Whiting-Plover Paper Mill and retired in 2000 from Consolidated Papers (New Page). He was a hardworking and skilled millwright.

Tony was an avid sports enthusiast and exceptional athlete. He played football, baseball, basketball, softball and enjoyed bowling. He also enjoyed umping and coaching Little League baseball and softball. He enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers.

His other passions included going out for breakfast, watching his grandchildren's hockey games, coin collecting, playing bingo, playing "nickels" at the casino, watching the History channel, westerns, reading, dancing, going Up North on family vacations, fishing and above all – spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He always put his family first and would do anything to offer a hand or give advice. He will be remembered for having a nickname for all that were so special in his life.

Tony was a long-time member of the Elks Club, Moose Club and also was a member of the Marine Corp League.

Tony is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia "Pat", a son Eric (Heidi) Hirzy of Stevens Point and their children Margaret, Elizabeth and Stephanie; a daughter Tammy (Mark) Robinson of Stevens Point and their children Kendra and Elijah. He is further survived by one sister, Ilse Devine and brother/sisters-in-law Jane Hirzy, Carol Lloyd, Ron (Eileen) Glodowski, Marlene Glodowski, Kathleen Butler, Rosalie (Donald) Cisewski and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Tony was preceded in death by three brothers Ferdinand (Mary Ann), Franz and Hans Hirzy, one sister Katherine (Stephen) Jed, brother/sisters-in-law Duane Devine, Larry (Donna) Glodowski, Russell (Delores) Glodowski, Harlan (Rita) Glodowski, Dale Lloyd, Roger Glodowski, James Butler and Minfred Glodowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 29, 2018, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church Plover. Rev. Edward Shuttleworth will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery Stevens Point. Visitation on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.
