Caroldean "Deanie" Clark has gone home to her Lord after living 93 years. We are thankful for her life and the ways in which she helped us grow. She was a strong and independent woman who lived with determination, and a sense of moral courage.
Deanie was born August 24, 1917 in the Town of Larrabee near Clintonville, WI.
She was the only child of Carl and Hattie (Steenbock) Buelow. She graduated from Clintonville High School in 1935 and entered the University of Wisconsin Madison Pharmacy School from which she graduated in 1939.
She worked as a pharmacist in several different locations and moved to Eagle River in 1956 where she was employed by Mulrooney's Drug Store and later by Michael's Pharmacy.
She delivered prescriptions to shut-ins all over the area, always taking time to check on the other needs that ill or older people might have.
Deanie began her love for the Green Bay Packers as a child when she attended games with her father. She loved the game more each year, although her favorite player was Max McGee, and she was thrilled to have met him in Eagle River.
She spent years working out the stats for guessing the games in the Vilas County News Review.
She was a big supporter of the Eagle River High School (now Northland Pines High School) athletic programs.
This support led to her purchasing the winning ticket in an athletic raffle which entitled her to free flying lessons at the Eagle River Airport.
Although she was in her seventies at the time, she flew for several years and became very involved with the Eagle River Fly-In, and event at which she sold tickets each year.
A lifelong Lutheran Christian, Deanie was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Eagle River and worshiped there from its earliest days of worship when the congregation met at the American Legion building.
In 1977 she married Eugene Clark, who preceded her in death in 1986.
Deanie is survived by her children, Paul Sheppard of Chicago, IL, Bob and Dian Sheppard of Plover, WI, Steven and Nancy Sheppard of Hanover, PA, and Judy (Sheppard) and Jim Stoltenberg of Meriden, CT.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Terry Sheppard, Candice Sheppard, Michelle Tureson, Sara Roberts, Melea Stoltenberg, Benjamin Stoltenberg, Scott Sheppard and Brian Sheppard. She is further survived by seven great-grandchildren.
Anyone wishing to memorialize Deanie's life may make contributions to Our Savior Lutheran Church. It is also the wish of her family that people who knew her will honor her memory by living their lives with the same courage and Christian hope which exemplified her life.
