Clara Jakubiak:
99, formerly of Julia Court, Plover, died Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the Stevens Point Care Center. Born December 24, 1910 in the Town of Stockton. Daughter of the late Alex & Mary (Sikorski) Glodowski.
She attended St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Fancher. Clara worked at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac and Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee. During WWII, she worked at Eisenburg in Milwaukee, sewing parachutes for our soldiers.
After the war, she worked as a seamstress in Milwaukee where she made beautiful special order dresses for girls. The dresses were sold exclusively at Gimbels and Marshall Fields.
She always made her own clothes, even coats, and made dresses and suits for her many nieces and nephews.
Her marriage to Roman Jakubiak took place on July 5, 1941 at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Fancher. After the marriage, the couple settled in Milwaukee.
In 1975, the couple moved to the Plover area. Her husband, Roman, died on November 19, 1986.
Clara had two green thumbs and that was evident with her beautiful massive flower gardens. She loved cooking, baking and sewing. At the age of 97, she made her Christmas cookies and attended church every Sunday at St. Bronislava Church where she was a member.
Clara was known for making doll dresses for many years for the St. Bronislava Parish Festival.
Survivors include her brother: Carl (Sally) Glodowski of Whiting. Sisters: Mrs. Loretta Shamrowicz & Mrs. Angeline Skarzynski both of Polonia. Sister-in-Law: Phyllis Landowski of Milwaukee. Also survived by numerous nieces & nephews.
Preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
Funeral Mass: 10:30AM Friday, August 20, 2010 at St. Bronislava Catholic Church, Plover. Rev. James Trempe officiating. Burial in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation on Friday from 9:00AM until time of services at the church.
Pisarski Community Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Plover, is assisting the family with arrangements.
